Sorry to read this. Do you have money to hire a private detective to look into this and investigate your former friend? If he/she can gather enough evidence to prove a crime & trace where your guns went, you can go to the police and swear a complaint against this individual.

Damn, sorry to hear this. I was told by a LEO that most home invasions/robberies are during the day. I am lucky to be able to be here during the day. Best of luck to you, maybe they will turn up. Let's hope the person tries to pawn them (that is the easiest way of catching them). I had one stolen from me many years ago. It turned out to be a "friend" who I didn't know had turned to drugs. I have owned a safe, ever since. If you don't have one I think Gander Mountain has a deal on a Liberty FatBoy or FatBoy Jr. For a good price.

This sad event shows why maintaining a serial number list of your firearms is a good thing. Even if the Beretta is recovered, with out that S/N, the rightful owner may not get it back.

Best of luck. It's a sickening feeling having a gun stolen. It must be horrible to suspect someone you know. I hope your quest is successful and the perp spends some time behind bars.

I'm definitely not getting on to you, OP, or trying to second guess what you did, but I think this is a good learning experience for all of us - be careful who knows you have guns, particularly if you can't keep them in a good safe (which isn't an excuse to blab about it to everyone, either). I've been guilty myself, and will try to do better.

Having been in your shoes under different circumstances, I am very sorry for your loss...it is a sickening feeling. Rest assured that even waaaaay out here in the west I have written your specifics down on a business card in my wallet, and will look at every gun I see in every pawn shop just in case. I am sorry to say that I seriously doubt you will ever see them again, but I hope for the best!

If you don't mind me asking are you getting anywhere with homeowners/renter's insurance?

You are eight months behind the curve, the cops have eight months more and larger crimes to think about.
You should be hitting all regional pawn shops and gun shows with a copy of the police report in hand. Don't confront a seller who has come by one of your guns by what he thinks - or claims - to be legitimate means, just call the law.

Sorry to hear this.

Not that it's any consolation to you, or any help for that matter, but if he's a crack addict, then he very likely doesn't have any of the guns any more. Those were probably used to fuel his addiction, along with just about anything of value he had.

I wish you the best of luck, though.

I've always said that you can trace a breakin back to one of your friends. Even if they didn't do it they may have mentioned your guns to someone that followed through with the breakin.

I do not let anyone know how many guns I own outside of a select few. When a gun isn't with me it's in my safe.

Good luck, hopefully you'll get your property back.

My Insurance Co Had a Cap on what they would Pay for Guns! They Gave Me $1500 which was just enough to Buy a Safe. The Gun Lockers or Display Cases dont Protect you Guns. Very Hard Lesson Learned!

notmyrichie; being broken into, that's a fear we all have. It leaves such a raw feeling deep within one's soul. Addicts, and Gamblers, lose all respect for themselves as well as others, and there's nothing they won't do to fill their emptiness.
$1,500 insurance they gave you. Their little secret is ~ and they pocketed the other $,1000 you should have gotten.

You only are missing the ser# for the Beretta right? Did you buy it new, or used. Anyways either way, the store has the info, and if used perhaps you can contact previous owner,or know their name. There's a very small office withe the BATFE that does serial# lookups for these and other similar occasions, and are very friendly, and efficient.
Well for what its worth you can also claim the difference on your income taxes as an uninsured loss. Be sure to list all with replacement value. If you find out later any values were off, and now are higher, make sure you submit that in writing to the police dept. reporting officer (or)detective for reference, and proof for the tax man of what you are saying

will keep eyes open goodluck!!

Most of the time stolen guns like this are traded for drugs. They are then sold/traded on the black market and almost never turn up in legitimate sales. Since you had the SN there is a good chance they will turn up eventually in the possession of someone caught in a drug bust.

Cops tell me fewer than 1/2 of the owners of stolen guns reported to them can provide a SN. When this happens it is almost impossible to trace the gun back to the rightful owner when recovered. Guns often end up hundreds or even thousands of miles from where they were stolen.

Going to pawnshops etc. is probably a waste of time.

I'd also check my insurance policy carefully and talk to my agent. Making a claim on ANY stolen property, especially guns, is a huge red flag to insurance companies. In many cases after the deductible the pay out is not going to be much at all even with multiple stolen guns. My policy would only pay me $2500 if they took everything I own.

Then there is a good chance you'll find yourself dropped. The next company you get may have much higher rates.

Insurance companies don't care about paying for stuff weather related. But fire and theft are the most common types of insurance fraud and will get you a much closer look. They figure virtually all fires or thefts are suspicious on your part. At the very least they could have been prevented by you even if you aren't trying to rip them off and that you are a high risk. I'd probably not even claim a gun theft to my insurance company. The payoff is probably not worth it.
