rifle resolutions for 2019

At least 3 AR builds with the kids plus an upper. New glass where needed. A stock refinish on a Model 70. Potential stock and barrel swap for a 10/22, nothing atrocious, perhaps a Magpul and Feddersen tapered.

I’d love to add a Texas hog hunt this summer while meandering the South in the RV. If I can get kids to the range on a weekly basis it should be a good time.

To shoot rifle more. Come up with some heavier loads for .223, and maybe another hunting load for .243. I joined an indoor range almost a year ago and shot lots of pistol over the past 11 months. I only shot rifle a few times all year, and I really miss it. Hopefully more balanced in 2019.

To shoot more with the kids. I built my 13 yr old daughter a 5.56 ar15 for Christmas and we had a blast shooting it on new years eve. She is really motivated to learn and get better with it now that she owns one.

I also need to get shooting my 35 whelen and my 6.5 Grendel rifles. Need to develop a few loads for them.

I also plan to develop some long range accuracy loads for my tikka t3 in 30-06.

If all goes well I really want to get a cz 22 cal FS and a Henry 357 single shot too. Gotta sell a few things first for those...

Shoot more often.
Build something on the trued 700 short action in the safe (thinking 7mm-08 or 7-08 Ackley).
Learn to bed an action.
Develop accuracy loads for a couple of rifles I've sighted in but never wrung out.
Qualify and then shoot regularly on the 1,000 yard range about an hour from my house.

HS Precision for the 700.
Another Ruger #1
Couple of used Leupolds.
Kill stuff.

That's about it :)

Do have to test the '71 sporter 10/22 I just got, see if it's a keeper or not.

I really want to try a few 22lr bench matches at my club. I'm currently trying out ammo and fine tuning a cz 455. This is going to be a long row to hoe but I'm slowly working towards the challenge.

I wouldn't mind trying a 6.5 cm but my range only goes to 300 yards. I might just settle for exploring the potential of my 243 and 30-06 along with the 22lr at that distance. Several guys have already made hits on eggs at 300 with their 22s. Count me in on that.

A suppressor would be nice to have. Maybe one day. Maybe this year.

Resolution: Get out and shoot more.

Specifically lay out training goals, and work up range session plans to achieve those goals then run those plans.

Lofty, we’ll see if I can make it happen.

Become proficient with Mauser iron sights again. My goal is 5 for 5 on a 4" 200 yd plate.

Get optics mounted on my new to me classic model 70 in 338 win mag and then develop an effective hunting load. Perhaps a new stock. Exciting times!

I’m simple. Find more orphaned, beat up guns, get them back to usable and shootable condition.

Find which ones I like, sell the others to turn into more projects or fund others. Finish the 30-40 projects that are already in the safe...

Finally bear down and buy a Dillon 550 and get rid of two of my other half-useable presses to make a bit more room, and make ammo loading easier/faster.

Learn leather working to make a custom sling. But that means an $800 leather sewing machine, plus whatever other gizmos are required... o_O

I made a resolution (promise to my wife) that I would not buy any rifles in 2019 that I had not already spoken for. Well, I had already spoken for a CZ 550 FS in 30-06, a Ruger M77 MKII in 6.5x55, a Winchester Extreme Weather in 270 Win and a Falkor Defense Omega in 6.5 CM. Picking up the Ruger tomorrow. The CZ should be here any day now. The Falkor is waiting on Cerakote, but should have it before January is a memory. That just leaves the Winchester to pay for before February and I’ll be all caught up. After that, I just want to spend more time on the range and in the woods in 2019. It’s been a long time since I was able to get out and enjoy myself without any other distractions/threat of emergencies.

I'm not a rifle guy but I love reading what you guy's resolutions are regarding them!
