Rimfire Leveraction Postal Match

'John Wayne' style is off hand shooting with the elbows off the ribcage.

Ummm, I shoot silhouette, and 'John Wayne' style isn't generally used because it's not a stable shooting position. My definition of 'john wayne' style is making your horse lay dowwn and serve as cover from the injuns while you use the saddle as a rifle rest. :)

jsimmons,

Did you shoot over your horse in our "John Wayne" match? That I gotta see, post pics!

Offhand shooting isn't common, that's why we did it. :D

I thought you had to shoot while riding the horse, rifle in each hand and reins holding the reins in your teeth? Was all set to buy another gun and a horse...

I went to the range this morning and put the target up at 25 yards. Well, all I can say is, it's been a while since I shot at anything that small. I could barely even see the black rings on the paper at all while looking at the front sight.
There was about a 10mph cross wind so I am going to try again when it's calm but somehow I don't think it's going to make much difference. :uhoh:

Lets not lose sight of the primary goal here which is to give us an excuse to go out and shoot our lever rifles a bunch. There's no money involved and bragging rights only apply to the non-Texan participants (the Texans are going to brag anyway :neener:) so just because the target doesn't look like a trophy taker it's all in fun.

I'll do the best I can but with twenty-five holes in the target there is a high probability for ugliness.

it's nice to have an excuse just to go out and shoot.

I gotta admit... Since the ex-wife moved to Oklahoma, there's been a lot fewer reasons to walk around with a loaded rifle waiting for a clear shot at something. :)

i have an old winchester model 150 and a son returning from Iraq i think i will take him and my 39 and 150 out for some fun!!!!!

Ksyodeldog: It is a great honor to have the very men that are (and have) providing the liberty we enjoy participate in those freedoms with us. I hope you and your son will join us.

Please thank him for his service for me.

Well said, DJR.

I expect an ugly target but if it's purty I promise my only Texas-style bragging will be a :D or five. Heck, everything is bigger in Texas including our groups....

(This is where FFrank speaks up and says "speak for yourself, Slug-boy!" What my fellow Texans FastFrank and rangerruck can do with a Model 60 is scary.)

I'm thinking about breaking out my BL-22. I don't think I've shot it in over a decade. It's got a cheap mount and scope and would allow me to shoot magnified. The Mountie comes first though. Plus I got a couple Marlin 60s and an M1-A to work on.

So much shooting, so little time.

Well, I think I know what I'm going to do about my sighting situation...

And I'm pretty sure some of you are going to protest!

I know... it's as wrong as anything you can name. That sight does not belong on this rifle and it's an abomination worthy of a good horse whipping.

But the EOTECH is a very high quality Holographic sighting system that qualifies for the non- magnified class.

And I'm well acquainted with this optic, because it's the primary sighting system for one of my other rifles.

I'm thinking it would work very well for squirrels, too. I'm amazed at how natural it feels to shoulder this fine rifle and aim it "Both Eyes Open" with the EOTECH. Yeah, it looks funny... but it feels right.

If they don't mob me at the rifle range, I may try to shoot the contest this weekend.

Turns head away in horror of seeing an Eotech on a 39. :what::eek:

:p

There's no money involved ...
Wha ..?

Well, then, I'm out.

I distinctly remember the OP saying first prize was $10K,
but I can't find that clause now. Must have been edited out ... :scrutiny:

What kind of scam are you people running here?

And here I spent all that money on some good rnds.

Hrrrrmmmffff....

Frank,

That is without the most double-awesome 39 combo I've seen today. Seriously dude, write us up a detailed range report. Inquiring minds want to know...

EOTech/Model 39

Hi Frank
I have always believed that every shootist has every right to do as he/she wishes with their own "tool" to improve its performance.;) Having said that, we expect that after putting the best sighting equipment on the best shooting equipment, you are now without excuse and are expected to win the unmagnified section.:D Personally, looks cool and I can't wait to read about the range results. Equivalent of putting one on a 1911, IMNSHO.

I'd think that combo will work well - esp. for old eyes! Eager to see how it works out.

I'm surprised.

I expected to be run out of town on a rail. Tarred And Feathered even.

I too am curious about how this combo will work.

I'm going to shoot it Monday and we'll know more about it after that.

Despite my jive talk (and my gut level that says "not for me")
it IS an interesting experiment, and if it gets you in the match,
then all the better.

You may have a first, also.
It'll be interesting to see how they work together.

Maybe you should get some more shots of it, like full shots of the entire gun,
maybe sitting in some rustic setting, like on a fireplace mantle or leaning against an old farm tractor, just to highlight the contrast.

Someday, we'll have a display of ... unusual 39 configurations, like duct taped scopes, hitech scopes ... who knows what else ...

Bummer.

The weather guy is predicting 80 percent chance of heavy thunderstorms Monday.

If I'm going to shoot, it will have to be tomorrow morning.

But the range with the good 25 yard setup is closed Sunday.

I'll have to shoot from the 50 yard range at Carter's If I go tomorrow.

So much for shooting the contest this week.

I guess it will be a "Test and Tune" kind of a day instead.

Range report coming soon!

I'll just bump this back up as it is not stickied like the last one. Hate to see it get too far down the list.

Frank - are you shooting the red-dot scope this morning? Interesting looking. I think I've got some old STP stickers around here somewhere if you want to throw them on there. :p

Interesting chart here with regards to ammunition and accuracy. It's pistol specific but rifle related.
