We've been having a good time shooting our rimfire lever matches now it's time to bring out their big brothers. For those of us who enjoy Ranch Dog's match this will give you warm-up for that.

Here are the rules for the match:

-Open to ALL Centerfire Leveraction Repeating Rifles, any caliber, any make... If you have multiple leverguns, you may submit an entry for each.

-Any Sight System is OK, though there will be separate scoring divisions; Magnified (ie. Scopes) and Non-Magnified (Opens, Peeps, some red Dots. )

-Target: Shooters choice, so long as it can be mailed and easily scored for group size.

-Scoring: Three Shot Group size; Distance between outside of the outermost holes minus the diameter of bullet = Group size. Smallest group wins.

-Distance: 50 AND/OR 100 yards. There will be categories for both distances. Shoot either or both.

-Position: Any, Benchrest, horseback or whatever legal and safe way you can shoot the most accurately.

-Target Due Date: May 15th 2008.

Side Match:

-Open to same as above
-All Sights allowed, all scored together but will be noted in the results.
-Target: 3x5 index card or 3"x5" sized target. An aiming point may be drawn or stuck on.
-Scoring: same as above
-Distance 25 yards
-Position: Offhand John Wayne Style.

Shoot as many targets as you like and send in your best. You may upgrade your target later if you shoot a better one and get it in before the due date - May 15, 2008.

PM or Email me for address information. Include the following information with your Target.

-Forum Name or name you wish to be listed in the results under
-Distance and Position used
-Rifle Make, Model and Caliber
-Ammo Used, if reloads please note bullet, powder and Primer used
-Sighting System used
-Shooting conditions, ie. outdoors / indoors, calm/ windy, rain / sun... etc

There are no prizes. I'm just giving you an excuse to shoot your Levergun and have some fun. Best of luck to all.

Every time I've said about a match, "I'm in for sure", something happened to prevent me from participating. :uhoh:

So in this case, I'm going to try the opposite strategy.

"I wouldn't shoot in this match for a billion dollars!"

There, that'll make sure I get to shoot in it.

:D

Shot a 50 yarder and the "John Wayne" 25 yard side match the other day with the 30-30. Should have used the "PapaJohn load" for such an important ;) match.

I'm hoping to have entries for 30-30, 45 Colt and 45-70 at all distances in this contest.

I haven't heard from very many. Hopefully they are out shooting the match. Spread the word pards, the more the merrier.

We has some dangerous weather here lately in my neck of the woods. I am gonna get you some targets. :)

I am still working up my powder charges.

My "New " 336

Hi All
Well just had to go out and get a "real" center fire carbine. Got me a 30-30 plain jane, hey think I'll call her Calamity;) 1979 model. She even has 3 notches on her forend on the left side.:scrutiny::uhoh: Real slick action, appears used but not abused. Put a Williams peep sight on her and hope to try her before the week is out. Forward to the match! May try some Pics later, but looks like a 336!!!:D

Where to send targets

Please e-mail me where to send the targets to. I've posted this on another forum and the folks over there are eager to participate.

My turn to moan and groan

Hi all,
Well I took Calamity to the big range for her coming out and she decided to through a hissy fit.:uhoh: Just got her sighted in with the scope (the aperture just can't cut it with thes eyes at 50 yds) and she jammed up tighter than, well we will leave that to your imagination. Got her home and apart and found it was the loading gate being loose and a bit worn. So I very carefully massaged a slight bit more bend in it and got everything back together ( only two times to get the trigger right). Cycled three loads through with no problems. Unfortunately the wind (gale) made any .22 shooting comical.:D Next time may be just in time to get any targets out for April. Did get a chance to become intimate with Calamity though. All cleaned and lightly oiled and well satisfied now. ;)

Got her home and apart and...
Ain't that a great feeling to do that?

I did the same for my new 336 a few months back: took the action all the way down,
polished and buffed to tune, sans bending the loading gate.

(See this and subsequent posts on the next few pages of the 336 club for details.)

It was such a feeling of accomplishment. I'd never done that before.
(They don't often let biologists handle gunsmith screwdrivers and such; talk about a potential for calamity. :uhoh: )

Hope this straightens Calamity out, Jake. I wish you tight groups now for the shoot.

I'm all loaded up for tomorrow.

Gonna take the .30-30 to the range and shoot some targets.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that I don't seem to have any of the Winchester Silvertips That grouped the best in this rifle last time I shot it. (That was a couple of years ago)

I could have sworn that I had a whole box and a few extras stashed away in the safe.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong and it was the soft points...

We'll see in the morning!

336 takedown

Really cool post you did on the disassembly.;) I had run across the one from Phil's Armory:eek: he did and it was very helpful. A bit of difference when you're having to do it 'cause she is jammed and you are wonderin' what you may find:eek: and just for the fun of larnin'. Either Calamity has received an action job on the job or on the bench, but the action is butter smooth and the trigger breaks at a crisp 4lbs with little creep. Double checked the hammer for accidental release, solid. Just got to get myself up to her capabilities. :)

Shots Fired.

I don't know what happened to the box of bullets I was hanging on to from years ago. The ones I had in my safe were NOT the preferred bullet for this rifle.

Maybe I shot them all up, or maybe they are buried with all my reloading gear in a box in the attic. Who knows.

I didn't shoot MOA. This rifle has done it before, but not this time. Close, but no cookie.

I shot the targets at 50 and 100 yards using Winchester silver box 150gr "Power Point" bullets, bought this week at walmart.

I really enjoyed shooting this rifle. It's a "Beater" by description, but it worked flawlessly and put the bullets on target. (As always)

Thanks, Mo, for causing me to pull this fine rifle out and shoot it.

Targets in the mail.

johnmcl and I were going to try to shoot the course this Wednesday, but work got in the way. :(

We're going to try for Friday. But, no problems, there's still more than 3 weeks to get targets in.

Once again, I'm probably not going to make it.

Business on the brink.
(But ever so close to making it.
Just a ... few ... more ... steps ...)
Broken truck (can't get to the range).

Go ahead w/o me.
I'll be OK, and catch up later.
