Rimfire Leveraction Postal Match

Angus' target has arrived. It looks like he's the new leader in at least one non-magnified category, possibly more. Some purdy dern good shootin' and would even be competitive in the Scoped class so far.

I made another attempt today and the results were as dismal as the first. My eyes are just not good enough to see that little circle at 25 yards while focusing on the front sight. :banghead:

I've tried to lay hands on a scope base for my octagon barreled 39 century limited and cannot find one. Until I do, looks like I'll just be a spectator.

Thanks Frank. I actually ordered that base over a week ago from SWFA and spoke with them on the phone. It's on backorder and they couldn't give me an estimate on when they'd get any in.

Still time for more

It's good to know you recieved my entry Mo. The weather looks good for the rest of this week and might even get into the 40's by Thursday. My range will still be a snowy, icy mess, but so long as the sun is out and the wind is absent, then it will be a fine day for more shooting. I'll be mounting a scope on the 39a and see if I can't get another entry into you. This has been a nice way to get to know a new gun. I'm looking foreward to trying this format on some of my older .22's like a CZ 452 Lux, Browning Buckmark rifle, Marlin 981t and also a 20" barreled AR .223. I'm thinking the recoil on the .223 may open up my groupings a bit.

We finally had some good weather in this area, so I took advantage of it and shot my targets. I was doing great on the very first try until I shot the last two lower targets. When I went up to take a look, I had shot the left lower 6 times and the right lower 4 times! [Expletive deleted!]

The next target wasn't nearly as good, but it's passable, I 'spose. My eyes were getting tired and/or dry in the mild breeze because the front sight was getting too blurry.

Anyway, here they come, Mo. (Main match target and bonus.)

Shot Count

Hi, Mal
If you check my post #26, you are not the 1st to fall into the Shaky count.
Also had a really good set going. Ole Sweet Lips is a phenom of a shooter, I am not. Hope she does not lose her patience before this is over.;)

:D

Looks like the Shaky count syndrome is going around! I hope no one else catches it, cause it sure is frustrating. I stood there looking at the target in disbelief. Funny thing is I was consciously counting all the shots because I knew something like that could happen. After that one, I started putting an empty shell as a marker for each shot taken - get to 5 and move to the next target.

Loading only 5 is probably the most foolproof method, but I says to myself, why have a tubular magazine that holds a bundh of shells and not use it?

Here we go again.

I have my scope situation under control, and the weather man is showing rain for Sunday.

I sure hope I get a better chance at it this time. I wasn't too impressed with my non-magnified target and I want to devote some serious range time to doing my absolute very best in the magnified class.

Maybe a mid-week range session is in order.

Fast Franks non-magnified targets have arrived. Looks like a strong contender in the average group size category.

Angus still has the lead in the smallest group category.

I'm leading the bonus match, that is until someone else submits an entry.:p

Keep shootin'

Mo, I've entered the bonus match, but I feel certain you will retain the lead. After my frustration of having to shoot two full targets for the main match and throwing away the better one, I just didn't feel like schlepping the 100 lb. bench back to the 50 yard line, so I just sat on the ground and popped off 3 quick ones, then I shot some lead at the target! **rimshot** bada boomp!

Seriously, my eyes were abnormally tired so I felt grateful to have all 3 shots actually make it on the 3X5.

I have given out my address to some but no official entries yet. SP is competing with his Henry in the Magnified division and I've seen a few of his targets. They will be competitive.

This time it appears most are shooting more targets and waiting longer to submit them. Shooting more = Good and fun.

Ok, I couldn't stand it any longer, the weather was so nice today, I had to try again. Printed one target and shot the course. Still not as good as my very first one, but a little better than the one I sent in, so I'll send this one to Mo. The very target I wanted to do well on - the center one - is probably the worst group of the five. So I have no illusions of placing in the running, but some of the groups were considerably better so I thought it was worth sending.

All this staring through a peep sight, as good as it truly is (I wouldn't have missed a squirrels head with any one of the 75 shots in the match), makes me start to reconsider mounting a scope on the 39 - and not with duct tape this time!

Mal, just opened your target. Nicely done, especially the center :neener: :p I'll score whichever you'd prefer.

I've been out twice and shot a total of five including one I did with my 336 just for fun :D.

FastFrank I have the cure for your scope problems. When was the last time you went out and just enjoyed an afternoon shooting your 39. You have become so frustrated with that scope thing a lot of the fun has gone out of shooting the 39. Remember the signature I use on some other forums " When I was feeling low a voice said, 'Cheer up things could be worse', so I cheered up and sure enough things got worse".;) Put that blasted scope aside and just go blasting for an afternoon.

Jake, you've got it all wrong!

I'm having a wonderful time playing with my rifle.

I'm a hands-on kind of a guy that makes his living with a wrench.

I consider all this scope fiddling to be "Quality Time" with my 39. I wouldn't have it any other way!

And besides, as Jeff Cooper said... "Only accurate guns are interesting"

I'm going to keep hammering away at this thing if it takes all week!:D

If more people paid attention to details like Frank does,
the dollar wouldn't be devalued so far below the Euro.
(And any number of other examples.)

Adjust that puppy in small increments until it's right.

My bad, I apologize. It seemed you were getting frustrated. Understand the drive to perfection. Married to one, sired one.;) fortunately I less than perfect an always gave the women something work on :D (sic)
