Work schedule will keep me from going over everything carefully for a few days, but hope to get some range time this weekend. But on first look, fit and finish seem very good.
Self rolled. 200 grain Hi-Tek coated Missouri Cowboy #5s over 5.5 grains of Red Dot. Hope to chrony and accuracy test this weekend.
Got to the range today. Really like the GP! But ... the front sight has to go. I really don't like the fiber optic; would much prefer a plain black target sight.
I put about 25 rounds of Winchester 240 grain cowboy loads through it, and 25 of my hand loads. Unfortunately, I couldn't get my chronograph working so no velocities to report. I'm guessing the cowboy loads would have been in the area of 700 fps. My 200 grain hand loads were clearly zippier ... maybe 850? Both were very comfortable. And the hand loads were more accurate. Here's one of the target of the hand loads shot at 15 yards, single-action, supporting my forearms on the table:

Pushed back to 25 yards ...

Wasn't very happy with my 25-yard shooting, and think the problem was that I couldn't get a clear sight picture with the fiber optic sight. At 15 yards, I was actually able to shoot tighter groups with my Bulldog, which has standard sights.
All the loads cut the paper cleanly, and I was very pleased with the outing. But I will be looking for a different front sight.
I haven't noticed any serious leading. There's just a bit after firing a few rounds but nothing that doesn't come right out with a brush and a few patches.usbp379, are you getting any leading with any of the bullets? i'm assuming the chamber throat diameters are .432". maybe why those .430" diameter hard-cast bullets aren't doing so well.

that speaks volumes about that gun. leading almost always points to something misaligned, or out of spec.
luck,

Just off the phone with Ruger.
The front sight issue has been addressed & should not appear on new production going forward.
The chamber issue is being worked on.
May or may not go with SAMMI specs, but they'll work toward better consistency in picking one throat diameter & sticking with it.
I'm encouraged.
This is a neat little gun & I WANT it to succeed.
Also, if the GP you already bought has a problem with chamber-related accuracy, Ruger is aware of the issue & should be able to correct it if you return it for service.
