I wasn't going to post about this until I gave S&W a fair shake at fixing my problem, but I am unbelievably frustrated right now and their customer service department seems to be away for the holidays.
Yesterday I purchased the M&P 9 I have been drooling over for the past couple of months. I was able to get one without a magazine disconnect.
When I took it to the range it functioned well for about the first two magazines. Then it started having chronic extraction issues. Every magazine a round or two would fail to extract and would remain in the chamber causing an awkward jam as the next round would get pushed up against it.
I am not an inexperienced shooter, and I had a friend with me who is also experienced. We both had problems with the pistol failing to extract. My buddies glock ran flawlessly the entire time with the same winchester fmj ammunition. Even so we tried switching out the ammunition and the problem continued.
I took the pistol back to the store where I had purchased it and they swapped the pistol out for another one and promised to send it back to S&W. Believing I just had a lemon I accepted the new M&P and went home to clean it up before taking it to the range on the off chance shooting the other pistol out of the box caused the problems.
Today, armed with a freshly cleaned pistol, 200 rounds of winchester white box, 50 rounds of fiocci, and 50 rounds of 147gr. ranger ammunition I went back to the range. Only this time I had a failure to extract before I got through the first magazine. I didn't have as many problems today as yesterday, but out of 300 rounds I had at least 8 or 9 failures to extract.
To add insult to injury the little take down tool that gets stored in the handle repeatedly fell out of the weapon and onto the shooting tray in the middle of my course of fire.
To say that I am frustrated and angry is an understatement. At this point in time I have completely lost faith in S&W and am probably going to end up taking my pistol back to the shop to exchange it for a glock, if they will take it back.
I want to give S&W a fair shake at fixing it, but they are apparently on holiday. The whole company. Because nobody every purchases or gets a pistol over the holidays. Even if they do fix the pistol I don't know if I will ever really trust it. I understand that some pistols are lemons, but two in a row, with a large difference in serial numbers is a bit ridiculous. Right now I don't even consider this gun to be functional.
