For the people who carry a couple guns of the same caliber do you use the same ammo in each or do you have different bullets for each pistol?

I'm talking about the actual make. Like a Gold Dot in one and Golden Sabre in another.

Only relevant duality here would be - BHP Practical . and my Rohrbaugh R9 . the R9 is best suited to Gold Dots . 115 or 124 ... and those are also to me premium good performing rounds. So BHP gets same ammo.

I might make a distinction if, for example, I carried the P95 in which case, it'd be Gold Dot again but - +P.

I dont carry, but I would imagine the design of the bullet chosen would depend on the size and weight of the firearms, length of barrel, ect.

For my G19, I almost always keep 147 grain Ranger T in it, and when I dont have a good supply of it or am out, I use 147 grain Gold Dots. If im out of both then I use WWB JHP 147 grain bullets.

Some people like lighter and fast bullets with smaller guns, becuase most believe the high velocity of the bullet will increase its chance of expanding. However, most new designed heavy weight bullets (147, 180, and 230 grain) will expand in short barrels, since they were designed to expand at lower velocities, and from what ive seen, the velocity lost from going from a long barrel to a short barrel is less with the 147 grain bullets, so if it works well through a long barrel, chances are it will work well in a shorter one.

Some like medium and medium or heavy and slow for short barrels. All have their pros and cons, but overall, I will almost always want a 147 grain bullet for my 9mm.

You should use the best performing ammo in that particular gun. That's why you test various ammo to find what each particular gun likes. If it happens to the the same then sure, but guns are individuals and have their own preferences and you should cater to that.

Majik's got it right, IMHO. I have two .45s - one hates anything heavier than 200 grain bullets, the other is easy to keep happy. One gets 200 grain Gold Dots, the other gets 230s. :)

3 45's all get fed the same Speer Lawman 200grJHP for serious work :D and a handloaded 200gr cast SWC for practice.
