Anyone in south eastern Michigan interested in splitting up a bulk order of black powder? We could also meet up to buy and sell some pistols. I am available most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Mike, where are you ? I live in Attica, half way between Flint and Port Huron. Anson Morgan and his wife Judy run the Kenockee Trading Post for the last 50 or so years and they stock BP. His shop is in Avoca, just west of Port Huron off the I-69 xway. He's one of the few places to buy BP from in Michigan. I'm not sure, but believe his price will match or beat anyones and you won't have to pay the hazmat fee. Their phone # is 810-324-2577. Give him a call and say Paul sent you. For you guys who don't live in Michigan - what other state would number a express way I-69. They couldn't keep the signs up for years - they all got stolen.

I'm taking a road trip up to Traverse City Michigan, from Missouri, the 3rd week of July. Will stop in Chicagoland to visit Mom, and Grand Haven to visit my Sister. Any must hit places of interest? Gun shops, Black Powder Shops - etc.?

I plan to take a couple BP revolvers with me along with a bunch of modern guns to shoot at my Brother In-Law's place in Traverse City area.

Looks like my MO CCW is good in MI.

drobs, If you end up further inland for any reason and end up traveling North on US 127 there is a (well known locally) 90,000 square ft sporting goods place in Clare right off 127 called Jay's Sporting Goods. Last time I was there they at least had some Black Powder stuff.
From Jay's Website...
"Jay's Sporting Goods was started in 1971 by Jay and Arlene Poet and is Michigan's Original Outdoor Superstore. Starting from a one car garage Jay's has grown into a 90,000 sq. ft. building in Clare"

There is another stop you might like just a few miles East of there in a little place called Colonville. It's an Amish shop called the Colonville Country Store. They have lots of rustic items (no back powder) including hand tools you don't ever see in "Modern" stores. Closed Sundays and Thursdays.

If all else fails there is a Cabela's in Grandville just South West of Grand Rapids proper and about 30 miles South East of Grand Haven. You never know what you will find in the Bargain Cave.

I can remembering stopping in to Jays when it was in the garage. He has two big stores now. Hey Mike, I shoot and run the shotgun venue at the Lapeer County Sportsmens Club on Sunday, Tuesday, and Fridays. And the club has the Attica Muzzleloaders - they put on shoots about eight times a year. You'll have to come up and visit sometime. I've shot with them for around 35 years. Our web site is www.lapeersportsmens.org and my email is [email protected] if you want to contact me sometime. If you're going up to Ansons sometime other than a Sun, Tues, or Fri let me know, I can meet you there.

drobs, which way are you taking to Grand Haven, 131 or 31?

We're most likely going go straight up to Traverse City from the North Burbs of Chicago then come back to Grand Haven on Saturday. Probably take the scenic route 31 up and then 131 back down. I figure my sister runs her own business during the week.

I'm actually planning to bring my S&W Shield with me in hopes of trading it for a Stoeger Coach Gun or Baikal SXS if I can find one. Has to be some shop in the 3 state area that has a used Stoeger on their racks.

What a pretty piece of property. If I wasn't too far south of you I would do the deal you want. I am talking to a bud right now about a 25 pound case from Powder Inc.

Drobs I don't know if you have any near you but Bass Pro Shops used to carry many of the Stoeger shotguns. You might check with them if you pass one.

I'm not sure how much powder they keep in stock. Yes, it is a nice place. Anson's wife Judy makes period correct clothing for many different muzzle loading groups. I got into MLing back around 1970 and they had a business back then. Great people to do business with. I put on a SxS shoot every year and Anson and sometimes his son attend. His boy shot a 14ga muzzleloader in our sporting clays course. And, there's usually a couple of guys shooting BP in their cartridge guns.

I was just at On Target yesterday, they have 4 new coach guns(3 in 12 gauge, 1 in 20 gauge), 1 used 12 gauge and 1 stainless 12). Lots of choices.

What a beautiful state. Spent about a week in Michigan mostly just south of Traverse City. Did a lazy river tubing excursion on a creek / river that dumped us into Lake Michigan. I was surprised that Lake Michigan had warm water on the coast that far up. Drove around an saw the tiny Light House in Traverse City area then hit a Wine Tasting followed by Beer tasting at a couple Micro-Breweries. I haven't acquired a taste for IPA beers yet, and eventually settled on drinking Margarita's on tap.

My Brother In-law has a house and barn on 80 acres backed by state land. We did some ATV riding on his land then I took my 4wd truck and explored the trails on the state land. Saw bear tracks in the sandy trails but no bears. I note the area is very flat with straight North South / East West roads. My area of the Ozarks has nothing but hills and curvy roads. Hard to find a straight road here in South Central Missouri. Brother Inlaw offered to sell us an acre of his land for $1 to build a house on. Problem is there is a dairy farm right across the road that STINKS of cow crap!!! Welcome to farm life!

We might move, in the future, to MI as my sister (who we visited) and her family also live in Grand Haven. Would be nice to be closer to family.
