"Sheeple" is a very popular term bandied about, mainly by gun owners, on the internet and even in magazines. It's obviously a derogatory term, buy maybe these so called "sheeple" just have a bit more common sense than gun owners give them credit for.

For instance, I don't like to frequent public ranges, especially if other gun owners are there shooting. I have seen way way too much idiocy at the range to be comfortable around the average joe while they are handling a gun.
Same goes for gun stores, and gun shows as well. It's not only scary, it can be quite dangerous. That's the simple truth, and there is no getting around it. ND's have happened on ranges, in gun stores, and at gun shows.

Simple common sense tells me it's safer to stay away from these places.

Furthermore, I would be perfectly happy if I was the only gun owner on the entire planet. Or at least the only gun owner among any people I come into contact with. Again, simple common sense. It's just too easy to be a danger to people with a gun, accidentally or otherwise. Nobody owning a gun but me is obviously safer, for me.
"In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king".

All of this is obvious, and really is just common sense, so maybe the next time you are tempted to label someone as a "sheeple", perhaps you should think twice.

Hey, you're right!

Let's urge Congress and the States to amend the Constitution so no one except you can own firearms. I only trust you, mikemck.

At least I'm honest.

Really, why would I care if you or anyone else other than me owns a gun?
Would I not be safer if I was the only one that had a gun?

If you feel differently, then good on ya of course.

Yeah, well common sense tells me that when "idiocy" is being observed at the range, I do something about it. Either tell a range officer, or if one is not available, take the initiative and offer your suggestions to the offender. You might find a beginning shooter takes your advice to heart, give them the chance. If it's simple horseplay that goes on all the time, then stay away from there and report to owner, police, whomever that might have a passing interest in very dangerous activity. Doing nothing but thinking you're the only one that you trust with a gun, accomplishes just that; nothing.

I have never seen these kind of accidents or silliness at our ranges in the 35 or so years I've been going to them, sorry about yours.

And the word sheeple has, AFAIK, never been used as somebody that is afraid to go to a range, gunshow, or gunshop because of "idiocy" going on there. It's used for people that take what liberals tell them about guns and the need for more gun-control, at face-value, without looking at hard facts or even thinking for themselves. For this application, it is a perfect word, and I have no problem with it.

Until you shoot yourself in the groin in a lapse of concentration. Obviously you aren't fit to own firearms either because you can potentially be as dangerous as strangers at a range.

Sorry, but I don't understand the reason for the post. There is no item of interest nor jumping off point for discussion.

Also the premise seems flawed.

You are saying that the "sheeple" are right not to like guns because other people (beside you) own them, and people don't always follow all the rules?

So the "sheeple" are the smart ones and have every right to be concerned and we are the dummies for having those dangerous guns?

You are a troll right?

Yeah, and when I'm elected King of the World, there will be many changes (I have a very long list), not the least of which would be mandatory safety training and proficiency testing on all sorts of things, especially intoxicants, sex, firearms and automobiles. The stupid, inept, and incompetent will not be allowed to participate.

In the meantime, I hope that thoughtful and responsible people will take the time to educate themselves about certain things and that Natural Selection should be allowed to operate unfettered. I hope you are sufficiently conscientious to be above it all and won't find your way onto my list. :neener:

Recontexted....

Public transportation weenie? Maybe just plain common sense
"Public transportation weenie" is a very popular term bandied about, mainly by car owners, on the internet and even in magazines. It's obviously a derogatory term, but maybe these so called "public transportation weenies" just have a bit more common sense than car owners give them credit for.

For instance, I don't like to frequent public roadways, especially if other cars are there driving. I have seen way way too much idiocy on the highway to be comfortable around the average joe while they are driving a car.
Same goes for auto stores, and new car shows as well. It's not only scary, it can be quite dangerous. That's the simple truth, and there is no getting around it. Fatal crashes have happened on roadways, parking lots, and a car dealers..

Simple common sense tells me it's safer to stay away from these places.

Furthermore, I would be perfectly happy if I was the only car owner on the entire planet. Or at least the only car owner among any people I come into contact with. Again, simple common sense. It's just too easy to be a danger to people with a car, accidentally or otherwise. Nobody owning a car but me is obviously safer, for me.

All of this is obvious, and really is just common sense, so maybe the next time you are tempted to label someone as a "public transportation weeniee", perhaps you should think twice.

Really, why would I care if you or anyone else other than me owns a gun?
Empathy, super-ego, belief in equality, belief that people have a right to live in peace and defend themselves...

As for being safer if no one has guns except for you, I would think your life would be in considerable danger considering supply and demand.

Really, why would I care if you or anyone else other than me owns a gun?
Well what the heck are you going to do when the other guy holds your very same opinion? Don't you think it could get a bit messy if he's screaming you shouldn't have a gun, and you're doing the same? This is why we have rights. When it comes down to the kind of position you hold, it ends up becoming a situation where you and everyone else gets to be "the other guy" to whoever has the muscle to say so.

Sorry, but I don't understand the reason for the post. There is no item of interest nor jumping off point for discussion.

And yet you post in this thread anyway..Why is that? Seriously?
Your post count? What?

Posting something that admits that gun owners are in fact a danger to those around them quite often does not make a troll, it's just the honest truth.

It does not bother me at all if I am the only gun owner on the entire planet that thinks the way I do, and the rest of the people on this forum should feel much better knowing you all feel just the opposite.

If everyone but me feels perfectly safe around strangers handling guns, that's great, and the same for gun shows and gun stores. However, numerous threads in the past clearly contradict that conclusion, but whatever.

It's just common sense to me.

The word "sheeple" began (SFAIK) with the ultra-right crazies who worry about ZOG and "mud people" and all that. It referred to those who aren't now ready to go to war with the federal government.

It's moved on more into our version of the mainstream, and by and large it merely means those who are happy and content with The Way Things Are insofar as government operates. Mostly, those who don't really question laws, rules and regulations.

Little to do with basic smarts; a lot to do with obedient mindset.

I should know better than to feed a troll, but I will make an exception.

Mike? IF today, we all banded together and made a law that only YOU could own a gun, how long do you think it would be before another law was implemented to take it from you?

Sheeple, as I see it is a term that is totally unconnected from any gun issue. I consider the term to mean someone that says yes sir, and no sir to the establishment, regardless of what is proposed. A sheeple has no rights, because he does not ask for them. He is the guy that will let leo search his car anytime he wishes. He is the guy that will buy something, and walk out of the store, knowing he has been over charged or given the wrong change and never say anything about it. He will buy something, get it home and find out it does not work, and then throw it away instead of taking it back for a refund. He is the guy that will give a robber what he asks for (even if he is carrying a gun), and then complain later. He will stop at the end of an on ramp entering a highway for fear he might crowd someones space. He has no opinions, unless someone has told him what to think.

Most of them think the first ammendment gives them the right to use the internet, and radio and television to state their opinions...... BUT at the same time they think the second ammendment is obsolete, because the founding fathers could never have visualized a repeating firearm or a machine gun.

I am sorry to see you value your freedom so little. If you did value your freedom, you would have to place a value on mine too. No offense meant. I DO support your right to keep and bear arms. I also support your right to post opinions I disagree with.

I would be perfectly happy if I was the only gun owner on the entire planet.

You know, the Japanese landowners felt the same way. If a lowly serf was found to have a firearm, it was common for the entire village to be punished for that one person's transgression. It is much easier to boss people around when you are the only one with a gun.

Would you feel better if everyone were required to live in bubbles, so no one could potentially hurt themselves or anyone else?

FWIW, I always took the term sheeple to be anyone that blindly followed the advice of anyone in power. It need not apply strictly to guns.

I should know better than to feed a troll, but I will make an exception.

You either do not know better, or you lack the self control to not do what you yourself say you should not. Does that not emabarass you at all?

Does it not also embarass you that all you and a number of others can do is label someone a troll because they post something on this forum that might not be popular?
Is that really all these forums are for your kind is a place where you can preach to the choir day after day and hear the same hallelujahs over & over again?
Heaven forbid you have to try and intelligently defend your opinion on guns or gun ownership. As some have shown, they just can't do it.

Mike? IF today, we all banded together and made a law that only YOU could own a gun, how long do you think it would be before another law was implemented to take it from you?

You just don't get it, and you probably never will. I'm not talking about making laws, or taking anything away from anyone, so next time just read what I wrote and take it at face value, instead of trying to put your own interpreation on what I said or meant.

Sheeple, as I see it is a term that is totally unconnected from any gun issue.

Well, the only people I hear using it are gun owners, and therefore I posted about it here on a gun forum.

If you think there are no gun owners that do those very things you seem to think are "sheeplish", and all non gun owners do do them, you have a very narrow and naive view, in my opinion.

Most of them think the first ammendment gives them the right to use the internet, and radio and television to state their opinions...... BUT at the same time they think the second ammendment is obsolete, because the founding fathers could never have visualized a repeating firearm or a machine gun.

along the same lines, there are people here who think the 1st Amendment gives them the right to say what they want here. Just as misinformed, except these people are part of your "group". Are they Sheeple as well?

I am sorry to see you value your freedom so little. If you did value your freedom, you would have to place a value on mine too.
I highly value my freedom, and it has nothing to do with yours or anyone elses, in my opinion.
For all the "cold dead hands" and other such 'net posturing, there is no doubt in my mind that while numerous people might "support" my right to freedom, they are not going to be around defending it, if it came to that.
They will be sitting at home bathed in the glow of their TV sets watching it happen.

No offense meant. I DO support your right to keep and bear arms. I also support your right to post opinions I disagree with.

Support is all well and good. Hell, I support other people's rights as well, and have defended them with military service. None of which has any bearing on what I posted to begin with.

Okay, I should have known posting something other than the usual "gun owners are superior everyone else sucks" type of thread, or the ever popular "tell me what gun to buy".

It just does not work. Never has and never will.

Everyone just return to your regularly scheduled topics.

Sorry for the interruption.

Fella's;

Let's not ignore the vast firearms industry that's going to exist to keep this one person armed. So, ya broke a spring? Tough. Ran outta ammo? Too bad, so sad. Gonna make your own ammo? Primers too?

Nope, ya don't get to use existing supplies outside your immediate ownership. You made the rule that you're the only one with a gun. And you didn't go farther than that. I'm making the rule that you get your one gun and the ammo you have on hand right now, and that's it.

Archery anyone?

You give yourself credit for more common sense than you really have....

So ya come on a gunboard and say how you wouldn't mind if the gun-grabber fairy magically disarmed everyone except for you, and now you question why people might be upset? Hmm, wonder why! :D

mikemck, self-defense is a human right. If you want to be the only gun owner you ever interact with, suggest you watch the "Theodore Kaczynski Living" show. :D

I guess I will have to take a course in "understanding the english language"Does this not say "take everyone's guns but mine?

Furthermore, I would be perfectly happy if I was the only gun owner on the entire planet. Or at least the only gun owner among any people I come into contact with. Again, simple common sense. No further response from me, Art's grandma would not approve.

Good god man, are you really that dense?

No, it does not say anything about taking anyone's guns at all, and yes, you do need a course, of some sort.

No, I don't wonder why people might get their panties in a twist over an opinion that differs from their own. It's the nonsenical, read between the lines and then interpret what was written nonsense that I wonder at.
