Hi,

I have a friend who lives out of ILLINOIS I currently reside in the Chicago area. What are the laws about shooting AK-47 at ranges in Illinois. I know you can't in cook (comi) county. Does anyone have any idea?

thanks!

10rnds or less mag cap is the only thing that comes to mind. Don't need to worry about Class 3 weapons, those aren't in existance in IL. ;)

Lots of thigns can't be shot in Cook, fortunately that is just a small segment of the state.

Outside of Cook County you're fine, as long as it's not select fire. No full auto weapons are permitted in the state.

Assuming it's a semi auto you're fine at places like the Buffalo range or at Indiana ranges like Willow Slough and Casper-Pulaski.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any indoor ranges that allow rifle caliber above .22 and .17? But I'm sure some folks here may know of some.

I shoot mine all the time at Buffalo Range. If you're looking for an INDOOR range that allows them, you might want to try JR's in Aurora....I have never been there but I know they allow rifle cartridges up to .30-06, so the 7.62x39 should be fine. Since none of Aurora is in Cook county, you should be fine.

Only if that's a particular shooting ranges "rule", there are currently no magazine restrictions in Illinois state law.

(or course, that may change by the time I hit "enter" knowing this state!) :)

A-OK *IF* the range policy doesn't prohibit center fire rifle of any kind. People get WAY TOO emotionally over-burdened over the laws here---even the laws in Chi say you *CAN* travel w/ an AK/AR and such if a non-Chi resident and the weapon is cased, not loaded, etc (specifically exempted if OK in your homtown--even if flying into O'hare and such).

And at any rate---I can't think of ANY outdoor rifle ranges in Crook Co. that even exist---WAY TOO populated in almost every space. Plenty in easy driving distance from there.

Happy Holidays!
