I personally don't care to read another Shopping Mall / School / Office Building / Post Office shooting thread.
Those that put their intellect above their emotions understand the situation for what it is and act / react accordingly.
A city is like a pasture, and in most pastures, the sheep are more abundant than the wolf or sheepdog, majority rules therefore it is mainly laws enacted by sheep.
Like most sheep, once the wolf has taken his prey, they know they are safe again, until the next time, but they don't think about the next time. All they know is that the dog is to blame, or the shepherd.
Sheep don't like sharp teeth, so by outlawing sharp teeth they have done their part in keeping all the other sheep in compliance (naturally because sheep don't grow sharp teeth).
I will never be happy that a sheep is torn apart by a wolf, especially if the wolf acts only out of blood-lust, but the nature of wolves cannot be changed, just as the nature of sheep cannot.
As a retired sheepdog, all I can do is shrug my shoulders, for this will happen again next week or next month, only the place may be called Browns Chicken, or Ruby's Cafe or XYZ School for the Blind, or it may be a packed movie theater or another place of worship.
The sheep don't want me around because my teeth are sharper? So what can or should I do about it?
As usual, we all (including me) love preaching to the choir.
Post Script: My personal solution to carrying a concealed handgun in Illinois was to move to NM. The guy in Illinois that was the most vocal in trying to get Illinois to ratify its gun laws moved to FL last year after finally throwing in the towel after something like two decades of trying. Sheep, will remain sheep.
