SHTF Choice (1 only)

Ahhh you're evil to offer such a dilemma:evil: As much as i LOVE my 1911, given the "unfair" parameters you offer:mad::cuss:, I'd have to go with a S&W (or similar quality) .357 Mag with a 4" bbl, preferably a Model 686 or 586. You have 3 options for ammo: .38, .38+P, and .357 mags. Between those choices, you should be able to find ammo in most any backwoods mom and pop store that hasn't already been plundered, looted, or burned. Now, if I could have 2.......................:neener:

Tough choice...

Normally, I'd say a 4" Ruger GP100, but the situation that you described seems to go beyond the typical home defense situation. In this situation, I'd go with a G17. Reliable under even the most extreme conditions, durable, accurate, simple enough that I could repair if something went wrong.

What's a large caliber zombie stopper? Any 5.56 or 30 carbine would do if you take out the brain, which is the only way to stop a zombie

But "the brain" in a zombie is in its stomach, from the last guy it ate. Wait a sec - did I actually just get suckered into responding to a zombie question? :p

Well, since this is for defense and not concealed carry, I'll pick the CZ-75 sp-01. 20 rounds of easy to find 9mm, in a gun that never fails to go bang.

Glock 7. It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport metal detectors and probably costs more than what you make in a month.

If one of those isn't lying around...a Glock 19.

The Glock 19 is the improved model of the Glock 17 and it contains even better porcelain and it won't even show up on a frisk search and it's invisible to the eye and cost more than you make in a year.

If one of those isn't lying around, get a Glock 35.

Ruger Redhawk, .45 Colt. Anything that doesn't suffer a poor end from a 250 grain bullet going between 700 to 900 ft/sec probably wasn't worth shooting with a handgun anyway. Anything I'd like to eat probably would be caught with fishing tackle, or a large rock and some cleverly arranged sticks.

Agree with possum

Glock 19, as it is useful for concealed carry yet big enough to control easily, 9mm ammo is inexpensive, plentiful, and easily acquired from the military (SHTF scenario). It's a Glock, so there is no need to worry about warranties. Overall the best handgun out there.

G19 porcelain?

Not hardly. I can't believe that myth is still around.

No... the G19 is not porcelain, it's way more advanced than that.

The G17, the first gun, is the porcelain gun that doesn't show up on x-rays. I saw it in a documentary where some ex-military terrorists tried to take an airport so they can rescue a South American generalissimo type from being extradited to the United States.

Thankfully a LAPD lieutenant who used to be a NYPD sergeant recognized that normal baggage thieves can't afford the porcelain G17 because it costs more than the Chief of the Airport Police makes in a month. I wonder why the Chief wears captain bars though. I guess it's a jurisdiction thing.

Ed Brown Special Forces...............it runs flawlessly and I've got plenty of ammo and mags for it.

BHP

I would choose a 9mm Browning Hi-Power. There may indeed be better handguns out there, but I haven't found one better. The fact that I have been shooting a BHP regularly for well over 20 years has made me very comfortable with the platform. The old adage that you fight the way you train is operative here; my operation of the weapon has become second nature.
