My AR, silliest gun I've ever bought. I have no need for it, bought it as a political statement, feel like I'm a kid playing soldier, wish it would go away.

Hadn't even thought of that. I bought one, too, in 2014. Bought an AK-type not long after that, both for that same reason. Haven't even fired either one of them (that needs to change, I know!)

My silly gun would have to be my Baby Browning. Have no real use for a .25 caliber let alone one so tiny that even with my small hands I have trouble holding on to it!

But I have always been fascinated with miniature guns (have had numerous Beretta Jetfires and an Astra Cub), so it has a rightful (albeit silly), place in my gun collection.

That’s the great thing about some guns. I own several that I really have no use for and others probably think are silly. But they appeal to me. Ask my wife! Lol Anyway, your Beretta is a cool little gun!!

Maybe I missed it, but where are the Taurus Judges here?!?! Surely a silly gun!

The problem is many people don’t think they’re silly...

Seriously, my favorite silly gun is my arm-braced Ruger Charger - just a means to turn money into noise and look neat.

I, too, have no use for 25 ACP's but I always thought those Baby Brownings had a definite "coolness" factor. But if you wanna see silly IMG_1592.JPG here's a 25 ACP Raven that came into the LGS in 1995 on a multiple gun trade. Shop owner said he didn't even want to put it in the display case with the "good" guns so for $25. it could be mine. So even though I have no use for 25 ACP's and/or Ravens I bought it anyway. Kind of silly but nowadays these things aren't seen very often and I've shown it to younger guys that have heard of them but never seen one in person. Sort of a silly little bit of history on "Saturday Night Specials".

Unless your name is Natasha and you really need a pistol that can be concealed in your garter, that tiny little pistol in 25 acp is a little silly.

My name is not Natasha, but that's the title of my son's second commercial success.

I own handguns from 25 ACP up through 45 ACP and, strangely enough, the two times in my life that I had to produce a handgun in a confrontation, it was the 25 ACP. And in both cases, the threat decided he would rather be some place else. So, the 25 ACP may seem silly, but it has saved my life more than once.

Iver Johnson M-1 style carbine chambered in 5.7mm Johnson.

It took me 30+ years to get all the variables worked out. (Thanks to everyone on THR that provided input on the various tweaks to the reloading process for the round.) Now it will spit out a 40 grain bullet at 2,850 fps accurate out to at least 100 yards with essentially no perceived recoil. And at 5 pounds with a full 15 round magazine, you can carry it all day long without noticing it.

Had one of those little Johnson carbines. Yes, it was my silly gun of that decade many years ago. Learned two things. One was "Cartridges of the World" is not a good source for loading data. Next came don't start learning case forming on 5.7 Johnson. Silly, it was but came with dies and a couple of boxes of factory cartridges.

I have a "collection" of affordable-to-me German police pistols. (no Sig 210, Walther P88 or H&K P7) and that is the only justification for a silly piece of history, an Astra 600/43.

Heavy, heavy, heavy, it's a double hernia to carry; you need a block & tackle or chain hoist to rack the slide; I hook the trigger to the trailer hitch on the car and do 0 to 60 in 5 sec to make it go bang; and barn doors are safe at 10 yards.

Otherwise, it makes perfect sense to own one.

Love my A600! Lol.
The trick is you just leave it cocked at all times- since it is a blowback 9mm, the hammer and spring are designed to help retard the slide opening just enough to allow chamber pressure to drop to safe levels before ejection. With the internal hammer cocked, the slide is quite easy to manipulate with only the recoil/return spring opposing you.

bond arms derringers are thought to be silly for having only two rounds, but they are built like a brick outhouse and fill the hand so nicely. naa mini revolvers seem to be silly because they are so small, but they go unprinted anywhere. what isn’t silly is that both b.a. and naa are made in the usa, offer lifetime guarantees and are wonderfully friendly makers to deal with. useful hint for both: ditch the pretty wooden grips for rubber grips to enjoy shooting.

The only silly firearms are ones that are broken or that never get fired, in my opinion. On that second one I make exceptions for irreplaceable firearms or really high dollar ones that were made and bought just to show off the craftsmanship of the maker.

My curent silliest is probably the mix n match 300 blk braked pistol. Cant quite figure out what im supposed to do with it. It looks cool enough, and sure is loud, but beyond that... (i live in IL for the time being so supressor is out).

Next is probably my henry 45-70. Its a pretty gun, as can be said of most henrys. But its silly for me. I dont hunt much, and il has no rifle season, so thats out. So what does it do? Turns 2ltr bottles of water into rain pretty well.... and rings a gong well enough at reasonable ranges.... but beyond that? Its big and expensive to shoot, even reload for. Its basically got magnum pistol caliber lever carbine ballistics, but rifle like reloading process....

I guess if i look at much of my collection, someone focused solely on practicality would argue its silly. Good thing i live in the USA and dont have to justify what i like.

Probably true for most of us and definitely in the eyes of anti's.

Desert eagle 357 giant heavy

I have to stop at the nearest log scaling station and pick up an overweight permit when I take all of my Desert Eagles out at the same time.
Would have lost the bet on this, as any thread with keyword 'silly' or 'impractical' usually has the DE mentioned before the third post!

'Silly guns' to me mean impractical.
As I age, these two get less and less practical for actually shooting.
Trigger time is okay. It's the time spent prepping the guns (barrels, bolts, and associated vital spare parts) to take out and especially the 'after action' cleaning that gets old.

Nowadays, they don't go much further than the back yard except when they are (stripped down and inoperable) part of a display I put up at local shows.

Amen.

NICE!! I had my 42:s on a Zwillingslafette on top of the flight of stairs to my house, fully operational, but once my kids grew up their placement didn't survive the negotiations with SWMBO. The possibility of a curious teenager putting 400rds of AP/ball into staircase at a combined rate of 2krpm+ admittedly wasn't something I would have liked to explain to the insurance company either...
Now they're in safes like everything but they're definitely not silly, they're an extremely refreshing way to turn money into noise whenever you feel like you could use some stress relief.

Well, the .45LC shotshells would probably not pop the action open, which would be nice, but i don't have any, nor a lot of snakes around here, unless you go to the Mississippi river valley, which I haven't since I moved to WI; I used to hunt the Houston, Minnesota, area for Turkey; I carried my .357 with two shotshells and four 125 HP for two-legged varmints.
Actually, I probably would use 2/1/2" #6's. They usually don't pop the action open, but the buckshot rounds do almost every time.

Folks, reading this thread is a hoot! Some recurring categories seem to be:

A. Tiny guns & calibers - I’ve got an Iver Johnson TP25 that’s James Bond “coolish”, made of zamak, and won’t run 2 magazines without a FTE. But it makes me smile.
upload_2018-11-19_6-52-35.jpeg

B. Guns you’ve never even shot - my Type 53 Chinese Mosin carbine that looks like it was dragged behind a truck. I took it to the range once but was actually too embarrassed to take it out in front of the fellows with their high end bolt actions. And I’ve got a full sardine can of surplus ammo for it! (No time for a pic this morning. And it’s ugly!!)

C. Historical guns - the closest I have is a nickel plated Remington Model 51 in .380acp. I’ve only field stripped the Pederson action once. It took three hands, a wooden dowel, & my trained shop monkey to get it back together. Now I just work the slide & listen to all the clickey parts move.
upload_2018-11-19_6-54-13.jpeg

Let me add one more category-
D. Project guns- i am a sucker for guns that need some TLC. There are 2 old Cresent double barrels with busted stocks, a lightly rusted Marlin lever action, & a handful of other projects-in-process in my closet. The pic I’m showing is a Spanish .25acp vest pocket that needs an extractor - I’ll have to hand file one since these were hand fitted guns to begin with. Serial #040.

Lol!
I'm waiting until my M51 jams before I attempt to disassemble it- hasn't happened yet!:D
