Silvertips in Whitebox

Has anyone ever come across silvertips in Winchester white box ammo? I shot a couple boxes of 9mm this past weekend and found two silvertips in one of them. I was loading up magazines looked down saw a hollow point that I just loaded. Scratching my head I thought I'd absent mindedly grabbed ammo from the wrong box but I didn't have any silvertips with me. In fact all I had were Remmy Golden Sabers, Fiocchi JHP (gold bullet), Aquila FMJ, and Winny WB. This is the first time I've ever come across different ammo in the same box. Kind of like when you order onion rings and get a couple french fries thrown in.
 
Or a roach embedded inside in your Oscar Meyer hotdog.

It was years before I'd eat a hot dog again. I didn't notice until I went to take another bite and realized I'd just eaten (and swallowed) half of the damn thing.

Still gives me the heebiejeebies.
 
Received a software cd one time that had a dead roach pressed into the cd -- we decided it was 'buggy' software! :D
 
Roaches, worms, and New Jersey.... man this thread went downhill fast :D

I bought a box of Winchester white box .45 ACP at wally world and one round didn't have a primer in it from the factory, there was powder everywhere.
 
Wow. I can't believe the amount of QC failures listed here!!!
I have been blessed to never get the wrong ammo in a box. Of course, if I paid for WWB and got Silvertips, I'd just say "thank you very much" and add it to the squirreled away miscellaneous ammo collection.

Just let my wife clean up your work bench, you will have every type of ammo in the same box. But of course she didn't do it. Things have a habit of going wrong if any other human was in the immediate area, even though they don't remember ever touching it. it's like magic how my tools end up in different places. My new deal is, if you move it and I can't find it, I just buy another one. that tends to stop them from moving stuff.
 
Some years ago my Department used lots and lots of cheap reloads (and all we were authorized at the time was standard 38 - yep, a lot of years ago). Many of these weren't just cheap reloads -they should have been rejected at only a penny apiece.... Hot rounds, barely adequate rounds, wadcutters in reverse position, wadcutters so badly mounted that you couldn't get the round in a chamber (and of course we were on timed courses of fire...).

The only benefit of the cheap and nasty stuff we were issued for practice/qualification was that you learned to be skeptical of all your ammo... To this day I visually inspect and evaluate any new box of ammo. Any rounds that don't appear to be correct just won't be in my magazines or speed loaders...
 
I once bought 2 boxes of .45 ACP. When I opened them later, one box was stuffed with 50 rnds of .40 S&W. I figure someone at the store probably switched them accidentally.
 
The last box of WWB I bought was 9mm FMJ. It had W-W headstamp w/ crimped primers plain old W-W and get this Priv headstamp brass. How that happened is beyond me and it was a sealed box right off wally worlds shelf.

Hah! My wife just asked if I wanted a hotdog for dinner....too funny! I politely declined and showed her this thread......"how about a salad?" I hear her in the kitchen washing lettuce and stuff.
 
Bout the only QC issue I've had with ammunition has been with Freedom Munitions. I had one 5.56 reloaded tracer with a backwards primer. I took pictures and informed them. Haven't heard a thing after 5 months. Scary bit is I found it after unloading a magazine, now I check each and every round like I should have from the start.
 
"Buggy software" that made me and the wife laugh pretty hard.

As for quality control. Not out of the ordinary. Wwb does have a lot of primers issues.
 
I had the same problem with UMC once. (missing primer)
Also had one with a paper thin rim in another box.

So this phenomenon isn't isolated to my house?

Man I've bought MORE FRIGGING SCREWDRIVERS since I married my wonderful wife a decade ago...

"Well, I wouldn't put it away if you picked up after yourself."

"Honey, I was using the damn thing *5 minutes ago*, went to the bathroom, came back to finish this {whatever}, and it's gone."

It's gotten to the point whenever I need something I ask her where it is first. I think it's a control mechanism women use. It gets you used to asking them for the basic essentials.
 
Ok so I'm not going to complain about getting a couple silvertips in WWB. I'll shoot them all the same. My own curiosity makes me wonder what happened a the factory and if the cases are charged like it was a FMJ. My guess is that real silvertip ammo uses different powder or at least a heavier charge.

No big deal in the grand scheme of things and I'll shoot them as plinking ammo but I'm still kind of curious. Wait, what if Winny really screwed up and there's no powder in there at all. Now I think I'll pull one of each and see.
