Hi, this question may sound foolish so forgive me in advance  The question is if you have a pistol like a S&W 686, will always shooting it in single action mode cause it to wear faster then using double action? I was wondering since I prefer to cock it for each shot.

No, it shouldn't. If anything shooting it using a fast double-action pull would cause more wear because of battering the cylinder stop notches. So single-action away... :D

I've got a 686Plus, and the SA is so smooth, it's tempting to always fire it that way. But.....if you intend it to be used in real-life self-defense mode and not just as a target gun, it would be wise to get used to DA mode.

Still, that 686 SA trigger is 3.5 lbs. , with a very clean break. Truly, "a quality revolver's SA beats an SA semi-auto."

You can shoot both modes in that revolver for many, many thousands of rounds without any worries, and your trigger will just become sweeter and sweeter. Just clean it and lube properly after each use, and never spin the cylinder and slap it shut(like in the movies)-it will stay nice and tight for many years of use.
Enjoy-MC
