Hey all, I just recently purchases a Chinese SKS, however it didn't have the original 10 round mag and came with a 15 round detchacheable that doesn't work well at all. I picked up a Tapco Mag for it and its been doing better but not anything special.

Mainly I wanted to see if anyone out there is having problems like these mags and if anyone knows where the best place to find the original internal magazines are.

If you using the Tapco mag with the original wood stock it may be getting pinched by the magazine well and causing malfunctions. It should slip in fairly easy with not much resistance, you can look up into the mag well as see where it's rubbing.

It's on a synthetic stock right now. I bought it without the internal mag and with out the wood stock. Both of those are mistakes in retrospect.

I'm going to a gunshow this weekend to look for both I just wanted to get some outsider opinions.

I had looked some time ago at the available high capacity magazines. My first concern was the ATF, but from what I read if the mag was not readily detachable there was no concern from assembling an assault rifle. The extended mags look tacky. They worked, but I was not confident with them of function. The 20 round fixed mag with the ChiCom Star seems to be sturdy and works well. Some of the original chinese stripper clips had too much friction to work well. Perhaps lubrication would help things out. I just got a bunch of yugo strippers with an ammo purchase and they will likely work a lot better. But you know I have not fired my SKS rifles since the 90's and will not until I retire. I have converted to the Kalashnikov system and the SKS is just for fun. If you use the original 10 rnd SKS mag everything should be 100%.
