I got a chance to shoot Smith’s new CSX yesterday and today. And I have to say I am much impressed. I would have preferred a slightly lighter trigger pull and night sights, but could live happily with the gun as it is. Near-perfect carry gun, particularly for those accustomed to 1911 format.

I would have bought one yesterday, but my current carry, a SIG p365 with manual thumb safety, already serves the purpose well.

But maybe if I shot the CSX again tomorrow…

Did you happen to see if the CSX has a firing pin block? Just wondering, no pictures under the slide, out in the wild yet.

I have not disassembled a CSX as yet, but my do it tomorrow, weather permitting.

Spatz, I like the heck out of it. Several years ago, I would have snatched it up, but these days I am actually trying to justify my gun purchases, and the 365 (my issued carry) is just hard to beat.

But I do have a SIG 938 that I haven’t shot in years that might make good trading material…and there is nothing wrong with having a backup gun. So who knows what tomorrow might bring.

Not really interested in this pistol, but am sure as heck thrilled that companies or company is trying something new.

Maybe just maybe they might come out with an updated 3rd gen.

I saw the pics and thought it was kind of dumb looking, then I watched some reviews and it is growing on me.The proportions look weird in the marketing pics, but when it is in hand its not as odd looking.

If they made it in a 4 inch barrel I'd have to go find one to look at. I've been carrying a first gen M&P9C for about ten years and have been thinking hard about retiring it and going to something like a small or mid sized 1911 (the emp 4 is very tempting), but I do a lot of farm and repair work and need something that won't get scratched up and rust away when I'm crawling around under a truck on a hot summer day. The CSX kind of fits that role, but I'm not wanting to go to a shorter barrel.

I don’t expect to see one near me anytime soon, but other people have reported that the safety isn’t “easy” to disengage…too small to sweep off easily. And the ambi design rides along the top of the hand in the right side, introducing the possibility of accidentally reengaging it.

Any feedback from your experience on the safety design?

P938 is excellent, but I swapped to the P365 because I don't like carrying cocked and locked. I prefer a simple manual of arms for my CCW. The SA CSX won't do it for me either. :(

Being a SAO guy I'm liking what I see. Reminds me of my old Astra A-70 9mm SAO single stack that I had back in the day but the CSX has much lighter weight and higher capacity.

If it has a firing pin block, could S&W come out with a version without a thumb safety? It has a dingus and a 7 lb trigger.

My first thought was "just another gun" but I admit that some reviews and a couple of video's have at least sparked some interest in it. I doubt I'll buy one, at least not anytime soon. I'm about knee deep in "carry" type guns, but who knows. Maybe just for grins and giggles.

too early. Between false resets, front straps falling off, incinsistant trigger pulls, loosy goodey mag spacers, lack of stippling on the sides etc. Smith needs to fix a few things and delay this a little. They should just checker the front and rear and use traditional grip pannel setup. Also fix the trigger for gods sake. Nobody wants a trigger safety on a SAO with a manual thumb safety. This pistol comes across as some sort of califonia bastardization of the Firestorm plus 9mm.

these days I am actually trying to justify my gun purchases,

The Gun of the Month Club is going to cancel your membership for stuff like that.
And you have to get done with the CSX to be ready for a .30 Super.

Me? Now I am TWO generations behind, I depend on single stacks and don't even have a small higher capacity 9mm like P365 or Shield Plus, much less an all new caliber.

I just stopped at a LGS to pick up some magazines and they had the CSX. I had a chance to handle it and I think they did a good job with it. It looks much better in person than in the pictures. It's well built and if I didn't already have more guns in that size than I need I would have bought it. The trigger is heavy but not too heavy, but in a SA carry gun I don't think that's a bad thing as it'll help avoid AD's.
