hello friends, what are your opinions on the best sniper rifle on the market?
also reason for your thoughts, I'm very intrigued by such precision placement shooting.

DSR1 cant do a lot better than that. Sub 0.5 MoA guaranteed.
The PSG2 isnt bad either.

However for pure accuracy you would do a lot better with a BR gun in .30 BR or 6 PPC or 6 BR.

How about a Remington 40-X MODEL XM3 TACTICAL. It'll only set you back about 12 grand... For that you get guaranteed MOA accuracy at 1000 yards. Heck of a deal for Ruby Ridge wannabes.

There's no 'best' anything. Your budget will have more to do with it than anything else. In any case, putting a scope on a rifle doesn't make it a sniper's rifle.
"...Sub 0.5 MoA guaranteed...guaranteed MOA accuracy at 1000 yards..." Marketing.

I would like to hear the conversation between the manufacturer and the guy trying to return his rifle because it wouldn't shoot MOA @ 1000 yds.:)

ussr, yeah, i was going to say "hunters, but no hunting rifles"

to the OP, you should probably be a LOT more specific

I'm thinking that the OP is referring to a rifle capable of precision accuracy.

Tape, there are lots of them. Due to the manufacturing processes and materials used these days, it really isn't very unusual to be able to get a relatively "cheap" rifle that will shoot MOA or better right out of the box.

Just as an example, my first rifle purchase was a Remington SPS Tactical in .308. I think I paid under $600 for it. That rifle very easily shot sub MOA, right out of the box. So...as was mentioned above, what you might get into is largely dependent upon your budget.

I find it hard to argue with the AI AW since it holds the longest confirmed kill by Craig Harrison, and he did it twice in a row, then shot their PKM, and all at 2707 yards. But they aren't cheap by any means.

We should avoid the term "sniper rifle." This is playing into an antigun meme, which is that "sniper rifles are only good for shooting people at long range." Of course, the end point of this thinking is to outlaw ordinary hunting rifles with scopes. Don't scoff -- this is exactly the road other countries have taken. So you end up being able to hunt only with shotguns -- and not pump or auto shotguns, at that.

"Precision rifle" is likely a bunch better than this "sniper" or "tactical" nomenclature.

Many options available for tight groups. One can be lucky with a box-stock rifle, tighter than half-MOA. Many custom rifles have tight-group warranties, and the maker will do what's needed to make it so if there is a problem.

Overall, though, a "guaranteed" mini-group or micro-group rifle's availability is a function of the size of one's billfold.

"Accuracy, a weapon is only as accurate as the one holding it, to say one weapon is not as accurate as another is when ignorance comes into play."

While I completely disagree with the implication that one weapon can not be more accurate than another, that statement seems to contradict the original question.

you also have to consider quality ammo, or even custom ammo for specific rifle, customizing ammo will bring more precision. I've seen rifles shooting 1 - 1.5 MOA with factory ammo produce 0.25 MOA when using custom loads, with quality bullets, brass, primers and powder.

OP depending on your budget, you have quite a few options for an accurate rifle. I and many people I know have had very good luck with Tikka T3's which are guaranteed to shoot 1" at 100yds with factory ammo. A stainless model with a composite stok will run you roughly $650. Depending on the distance you plan on shooting, I would highly recommend spending money on a good quality scope, it can make a helluva difference. I personally have a Rem 700 .270 Win that I floated and bedded myself, with Nosler 130gr Ballistic handload it consistently shoots .5 MOA center to center on 3 shot groups out to 300 yds. The rifle probably shoots better than I do, but I am plenty happy with those groups. I also know a few friends who have bought Weatherby Sub-MOA rifles and have had very good luck with them. If you are looking for something more expensive, I have heard very good things about Cooper rifles and their accuracy. Then of course Sako and their .338 lapuas are extreme long range accurate rifles, but very expensive to buy and very expensive to shoot.

Buy a Savage Model 16FXP3 in .308 ,and when you can put 5 rounds touching at 100 yards, buy a better scope and move up to 300. when you can shoot 6 inch groups every time at 300, get a better barrel and move up to 500.

Then, if you want to shoot like a sniper, set up a target inside of 1000 yards.

Get a buddy, preferably that guy that gets on your nerves after a while, load up with 3 rifles and all your gear, and about 250 lbs of stuff. Pack along a few Oscar Meyer Lunchables.

Get on a bus, and ride it 12 miles out of town. Get off, and hide in the ditch till dark. walk back into town, hiding in the ditch every time a car passes.

If you don't make it to the range before sunup, hide in a dumpster the next day till dark.

when you get within 2000 yards of the range, crawl the rest of the way. If you have to pee, do it right where you are lying. Get to the line, and build a pillow fort. Hide in it with your buddy all the next day and night. Argue over who gets to take the shot, who's the better shot, the range to target, the wind speed and direction, and who ate the last lunchable.

Next morning, have your buddy call your girlfriend, and ask if you can take the shot. she'll tell you to call back a few times, then tell you no. pack up all your stuff (including your feces) and crawl all the way home.

While Precision Long Range Marksmanship is an important skill for a sniper, it's not the most important. Lots of excellent shots wash out of SSBC becuase they can't hack Mapmaking, stalking, Fieldcraft. Making the shot is the last worry- if you can't burn and hide, and wait and wait, you'll never get a chance to make the shot.

I'm thinking about picking up a Savage with a McMillan stock if I can find someone local to bed that in. Or a Savage with the HS Precision stock if I don't want to bother.

How dumb would it be to put a bipod on a bench rest rifle like this one?

Maxpedition makes some good "dump" pouches.
Allthough I'm not sure they're intended for packing out feces.
