So I have like $4k into my AR now...

fs10mm-

It is only a couple pounds heavier than it was stock, and for that I get a huge amount of versatility.

If you will notice, most of the money I put into it did not add weight, it simply replaced things with other items of similar weight, but better construction.

Yes, I practice very regularly and attend multi-day training courses at one of the largest range complexes in the country, at which I am an RSO.

"All that equipment won't save your ass in a gunfight."

Tell that to the troops who have felt VERY blessed to have an EOTech and 3X FTS in the field.

Seems our country did just fine for over 200 years with just plain iron sights.

<<< Younger brother serving in Iraq in combat with iron sights.

<<< Three cousins served in Afghanistan and Iraq in combat with iron sights. One didn't make it back. KIA by an IED.

Depends on your perspective.

I don't have to justify anything, I love my life.

It could also be seen as a bunch of sanctimonious jerks coming out of the woodwork.

:D

OK, so some of you don't like putting that much money into your guns. I don't either, but the OP does. If I had that much money to put into my gun, I probably would. I think it's a nice setup. If you really want to go all out, I say add something like a thermal scope or a motion tracker (alla Aliens).

EOTech...*drool*

But I'm artillery, and doing my job at the moment. If I was still doing my old job (convoy security) I wouldn't mind having a few of those gadgets. The PMAG's especially. But my issued ACOG did good enough.

And in my unit, the most you get issued is a PEQ-2, PVS-14, M4, and M68 (CCO) or an ACOG. If you want an EOTech you go out and buy one.

Props on building your dream rifle, man. Its the American Dream in the making.

Carry on.

Dont' worry Louisiana Carry. I suffered the same "sickness" , and after a year or so, i'm still fine.. and My M4 rocks !

ps: ironsights are just NO MATCH with Eotech's .... not to talk about the ACOG precision at 300m and over !

ps:

XR-15 M4 Sabre defense
Daniel Defense M4 Handguard
Tango down pistol and vertical grips
CAA stock parts (cheek)
7 windowed pmags
EOTECH 553 + 3x magnifier
Trijicon ACOG TA01NSN
Quick attach Sound supressor (= to B&T in noise suppression )
Blackhawck one point tactical sling
acu wedge, rail covers etc etc etc

Wow, all of these attacks, on the OP's decisions, make no sense to me. We are all firearms lovers here, yet half of the posts here critize the man who exercises his right to keep and bare arms.

If someone wants a $4,000.00 AR or a $400.00 used AR makes no difference to me. It's their money. I am simply appreciative each time someone shares with me, especially with pictures, what they made as a 2A investment.

Probably becasue of the title of the post & some of the comments to follow. I could care less how much one spends on anything they own, but no need to tell me and list the cost of every screw in the rifle.

Posting a pic and saying look at my AR would have gotten much better reviews.

From the looks of the pic he has more money in the AR than the cars in the back ground. Hey to each his own.

I will say that is own nice tricked out AR, Enjoy it, it's your MONEY!

I would love to spend 4k on a AR-15, unfortunately, in sweden it is an "Evil black Rifle" (or rather och recent military design) and thus quite thoroughly prohibited.
Nice gun by the way, keep on tweaking.

In my college days I used to be big into paintball and the guys that cracked me up in that sport were those who purchased a $300 marker and then proceeded to replace just about every part and add parts and wound up with a $1200 marker.

Except that the now $1200 marker did not work as well as a "real" $1200 marker.

And somewhere along the line folks like that always decided to sell said marker and got all pissed off when the market would only pay $300, not the $1200.

Something about the OP reminds me of my college days.

I don't know, I can kind of sympathize with your plight.

I don't have quite that much into my AR, but I know what you mean. Once you get going on improvements it kind of takes on a life of it's own. Personally I quit around the $1700 mark.

Rock River Tactical Entry AR-15 ($850)

Yankee Hill Rail ($150).

E.O.Tech ($325).

GG&G flip up rear sights ($110)

Grip Pod w/a push button flip out automatic bipod ($110).

Surefire light ($130).

Mag pouch on stock ($20).

Sling (free, a friend gave it to me).

Right now it does everything I need it to do. I've got really fast optics and BUIS if the batteries fail. I have a stable shooting platform if I'm shooting from some type of rest or if I'm shooting prone. I have spare ammo readily available and I can identify my target in low light situations.

Initially my friends thought I was nuts for spending that much (that's ALOT of money for me), but now the hardest part about cleaning the thing is getting their drool marks off it.

Once I got all my bases covered I quit, but I can see how someone could get up to the $4,000 mark if they kept on going. Some people operate off jealousy, they don't want anyone else to have anything really nice because they're not willing to do what it takes in the first place to do something like that themselves. Even if someone gave them a gun worth that much they'd be too afraid to shoot it for fear of scratching it.

I wouldn't worry about those people too much. If you're happy with it and satisfied in your investment then that's the only thing that counts. One of the great things about the modular AR system is that you could take alot of the stuff off that gun and get your money back if you ever wanted to. It's not like most of that stuff can't come off.

How accurate is it? All that really matters is the first shot. The rest are to make you feel better about missing the first one...

Two highly accurate bolt rifles with decent scopes, and a handloading kit...
