So I have like $4k into my AR now...

How accurate is it? All that really matters is the first shot. The rest are to make you feel better about missing the first one...

mine, at least, is very precise. That's a 300meters (328yards) result with a TA01NSN scope on 14,5" barrel

ps: the whole target diameter is around 30inches

From the looks of the pic he has more money in the AR than the cars in the back ground. Hey to each his own.

I'm bettin' those are just priceless classics cause, you know.....

I always opt for the best of things. I only go the best restaurant in town, because I would rather have one killer $200.00 meal than 20 $10.00 meals.

LC......like most folk here I admire a nice firearm.....and you have a nice firearm. Posting a running tab to the exact penny and bragging about how much money you have put into it instead of how accurate or how smooth it cycles, makes me think you're more concerned about impressing us with money spent than the firearm itself. Many of us have a hobby or two that tend to suck up all our spare change, but to most, the cost is irrelevant. Your original post and subsequent posts tend to read that how much money spent(whether on your gun or caviar) is what makes something good or bad. JMHO

BTW.....I have had many $10 meals at little mom and pop restaurants that made some of the $200 meals I've had seem like dogfood.

I don't have any 10s. My 20s are to keep the $1/pc rounds in for quick access at the range

Good example.....no brand name, no other reference other than the cost.

It could also be seen as a bunch of sanctimonious jerks coming out of the woodwork.

could be.....it could also be seen as, "it takes one to know one".

Parts to build this rifle, including the magazine, BUIS, and the MagPul CTR stock but not the optics; about $750.00
Cost to assemble; did this myself so I will write it off as time served.

Trijicon TA01NSN optic; $840.00!!

Crazy isn't it?!

I just find this funny:

Not me. I always opt for the best of things.

Yet you started with a Stag 2T. Not that there's anything wrong with a Stag. They are good rifles from what I've seen. but far from "the best."

As you can see, their major components is about all I stuck with.

What some may not know about Stag is that their parent company has been making those major components for longer than many here have been alive. Why does this matter? Instead of going with other companies, who may order their upper receivers from one place and their lowers from another, etc.- Stag makes all their major components in house- including the tooling and dies. You will rarely find a Stag that you can see any light through, and I have never seen one that needed and Accu-wedge.

I like stuff that fits together well, and if you mean Colt- they can hang it up. I do not care for them at all.

LC,

Actually, given the generally high signal to noise ratio here, I imagine many if not most posters (at least those interested in EBRs) on THR are aware Stag AR15 components are really CMT components. It's hardly a secret and CMT makes major parts for a LOT of AR15 "manufacturers".

I don't want to get embroiled in an AR15 maker X is better/worse/more-L33T than AR15 maker Y. Most are really pretty good. All are capable of producing a lemon now and then.

I just happy Stag offers lefty uppers, since my LH and left-eye dominant daughter will need one soon.

Sorry, Louisiana Carry. I hate to pop your bubble, but I was born in 1934, and there weren't any AR-15s or M-16s around back then. I'm not the only Certified Olde Phart around here, either. And that pipsqueak .22 centerfire cartridge is a Johnny-come-lately for those of us who grew up on Swifts and Varminters.

I've had four ARs. An early Colt, a later, heavy-barrelled Colt, a junkyard-box of parts from which I built an AR, and a good-used Bushmaster Match Target that shot half-MOA all day long from the benchrest on my front porch.

I gave $500 for the Bushie...

I imagine that lots of folks here can write a check for more than a basic five figures. The issue is less what anything cost that it is what you get for what you spend, and whether or not it's worth having.

The "worth having" is up to the individual--which is what makes for horse races.

Have fun...

No problem. It's just that I've been messing with all sorts of guns for a whole bunch of years, and Stag Arms hasn't really been around all that long.

No reason a new kid on the block wouldn't turn out a good product. And there's no reason an old company can't go downhill for quality control...

So tell us how well it all works....

Louisiana Carry,

Who have you trained with? Who taught your multiday course? From where you positioned your VFG, your instructor must have had a Naval Special Warfare background rather then an Army SOF background. How many rounds have you got through your weapon? What's your highest round count in a day? Any reliability problems?

How do you like the X300 mounted on a carbine? Any problems with the beam not being focused enough at carbine ranges?

What about the EOtech, any problems with the integral mount not fitting the picatinney rail on your receiver properly? This has been a problem with a lot of the EOtechs in the past.

Jeff

Very Nice AR.. the stock Stag that you started with looks just like my Smith and Wesson - M&P 15T.. I think Stag builds them for Smith.. I will add to my Ar two of your features the EOTech HWS Weapon Sight Model 557 and the EOTech 3X Flip to Side Magnifier...Stay Safe..Happy Shooting!!!!!!!

I train here: http://lra-tti.com

This is the next one I will be going to: http://lra-tti.com/Announcements/Two-Day_Tactical_Rifle_1.pdf

We bought out most of the stuff at the Thunder Ranch auction when they moved out west, and put it on 700 acres with a 1000 yd range and all kinds of stuff.

I have just under 5K rds through this one. It eats everything flawlessly, except S&B (I may have just gotten a bad run of S&B, though). I shoot anywhere from 100-600 rds in a day.

I love the x300. I used to have a 3 cell Surefire with a 200 lumen xenon bulb, but this new cree technology, while maybe having a tiny but less throw, is absolutely worth it, considering it has 250% of the other light's battery life. I have never beena fan of L.E.D.s, but the light on these is real clean, and this light is certainly more compact and lighter than my old setup. My light and laser can both cover my 4 acre property for normal defense purposes.

The EOTech fits great. My 512 had a GGG accucam, which I liked, but GGG does not make one for the 557. That is no big deal now that I have the 3X, though- I do not need to remove it to mount a scope, like I did before.

i'm surprised to hear you say that, bogie

cause you know bad guys always work alone. no reason you would ever need a 2nd shot. in fact, I heard the SEALs were going to single-shot stolle actions because they were so impressed with all the benchrest shooters. DARPA even funded the research for a mobile shooting platform that has built-in front/rear rests so the SEALs can just sit behind the wheel and drive their benches over water and land. Look for it on superweapons next month.

If that floats your boat, fine....All that equipment won't save your ass in a gunfight.

Congrats on your rifle. My Ar's are my "fun guns". If it ever comes down to defense I'll grab my M1A before my AR. I'll be getting a Scout/socom soon for CQB instead of the AR's, I prefer the greater punch of the 7.62 round.

I have 2 stag's. a model 2 & 4. Both NIB for less than $850 each. I spent my money on ammo. My model 2 has the EOTech 512, model 4 is prety much in classic condition.

Again nice build, a little pricey IMHO for an AR but enjoy.

At what point do you say to yourself... "I shoulda just bought a $350 AK." ?

Seriously.

I heard the SEALs were going to single-shot stolle actions because they were so impressed with all the benchrest shooters.

Heh, heh...

I have a friend who can consistently, in high switching winds, fire five shots out of a single-shot rifle into a half-inch group at two hundred yards. Consistently. Oh, and his wife can do it too...

Bolting a lot of stuff onto something does not necessarily make it better. What makes it better generally involves the proper torque applied to the loose nut behind the buttplate.

Nice rifle. The most important thing I did for my AR was a good trigger group. With that I can now make good shoots much further out.

Louis. Carry:

Very nice, beautiful weapon and gear.
I am so thankful that serious fraction of rifle enthusiasts buy the more technically advanced "weapons systems"!
You guys/gals made excellent decisions.

It helps so many of us, by limiting price increases for the simple fun guns, i.e. Russian Mosins, Minis and SKS etc: all are simple, affordable (determined also, or mostly because OF the relative ammo costs), and very durable.
Only iron sights for me and nothing else except carrying straps and bags.
My Mini 30 came with the scope and before I took it home from the store following a long delivery time (from 'Kaliforniastan', via UPS  ...only FEDEX for me if I ever ship something out), my only request was for a gun staff buddy was to immediately remove the scope.

No matter who moves into the White House in November, they will not help gun ownership rights by much at all (if any), from what I've read.
Therefore more orders for ARs, M-14s, FN-FALs plus extra magazines etc is a superb choice. 'The far left loon faschist cells' will target these as much as anything. Sales might be taxed into oblivion by incremental steps. Insidious. We must continue buying gas, but why delay ordering a superb weapon or more mags when a single major incident in, or near the Arabian (Persian) Gulf can spike anxiety and gun prices? :uhoh:

I liked the fact that everything was outlined and priced. It gave me an idea of exactly what he did with it. A lot of time, effort, and money goes into researching, buying, and installing all those extras. Thanks for all the details.

Not my cup of tea. That said, thank god this is America. It's your money. Far be it for me to tell you how to spend it.
