I just bought an SP 101 in Target Grey

I want to dress her up a bit before posting a photo. I like those rosewood Eagle grips like Bulboy has but checkered. I also need a holster that is very comfortable and concealable. I'm used to shoulder rigs but I am open to suggestion.

This revolver is SN 573-55239 can anyone here tell me when it was made.

Thanks,
Jas

I just bought a new SP101 2.25" and love it. I've really enjoyed seeing your pictures. May I ask you how you keep the front of the cylinder that nice stainless steel color. My Ruger Super RedHawk has turned black-ish over time no matter how much I clean it. I sure would like to keep my new SP101 clean if there is a trick.

How does the Ruger compare to S&W snub noses in recoil? I like the look of a snub nose, but the Smith .357's seem hard to control; maybe I'm just a pansy.
I guess it wouldn't matter much with adrenaline running, but I like to practice.

Pat Cannon, how does that clip draw attach to the side of your SP101? Is it with two sided tape? How do you like it? Is is really secure? Nice gun, would like to put a clip like that on my SP.

Nameless, the Ruger SP101 is a bit heavier than a S&W "J" frame. This helps reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip. I have Hogue monogrips on mine and this further reduces recoil especially with magnum loads.

"ECV Matt

Check out Don Hume holsters on the web. fast service at and excellent price."

I really like the Don Hume OWB. Mine here is the 721 OT, I had purchased for my 3" SP-101. I can also carry my 2" SP-101 in the same holster very comfortably. I really like the bodyshield that some holsters don't have.

I second the Don Hume H721 OT. I have been carrying a SP101 for over 7 years now. About 2 1/2 years ago I got the Don Hume H721 OT and wow! What a difference it makes. It holds the SP101 high and tight and it has a body sheild.

Sooner SP101 I use a "Lead away cloth". After cleaning the gun let it sit for a 2-3 days to let the oil settle. Then (using and UNLOADED gun of course) I just rub that lead away cloth on the front of the cylinder while watching TV and the black marks just disappear. Well, that's what I use to do. Now I kinda like those black rings on the front of the cylinder and just leave them.

I had a S&W M60 2 1/8" brl .357 and sold it because the SP101 just felt so much better under recoil of the .357 magnums.

bulbboy, how do those Eagles feel in recoil? I'll admit 158gr. Federal American Eagle "High Velocity" .357 Magnums absolutely hurt with Hogue Wood Monogrips (and are only slightly more tolerable with the factory grip). I can't imagine how it would feel with one less finger to control recoil...

Can anyone comment on how the Badger/Eagle boot-grips feel (subjectively, of course) compared to the factory grip?

Well, my 4" SP101 has one more hole in the cylinder... and an 'adjustable' rear sight - whoppee! Lots of QC clean up required - and a pair of light Wolff springs, but it is a keeper now - along with it's SA brother. The Hogues help - not for the non-existant recoil - but for something to hold on to. My usual loads are 96gr LRNFP .32 S&WL homebrews just over 605 fps - or 115gr LRNFP .32 H&RM homebrews at 730 fps. I have also shot hundreds of the GA Arms 100gr JHP loads - made 1,186 fps from the SSM - loud, but very little 'bounce'.

All of the SP101's share the same MSRP - $550 in the '07 catalog. Sadly, the 4" was canned a year or more ago - but the 3" is in that catalog - KSP-3231X. Davidson's still had some in the $430 range - plus s/h and dealer mark up.

PS YES! Inside and out, the SP101 is simply a shrunken GP100... or is the GP an SP on steroids? Same style of grip to trigger.

ok it's official..I miss my SP..I carried it for years and then went to the s/w 642 and I sold the SP....at least ti went to a good home. But man it had a sweet trigger........:(

I ordered a SP101 Spurless today...paid 430, I am anxious to get it on friday! I am going to have my favorite local gunsmith work on it a little, a trigger job, a trijicon night sight and maybe some custom grips...I also bought a don hume IWB open top holster...I am very pleased with it so far.

I previously owned a 91/2 inch .44 mag super redhawk with a red dot sight for deer hunting...I have sense sold it. But I wanted to know if you guys have any special cleaning secrets you use to really polish your sp101s up.

Truth be told I used to use Mothers Mag and Aluminum wheel cleaner/polish on my SS superr redhawk with amazing results...just rub it on and it pulls the nastys right out of the steel.
