Question for you SP-101 fans...

I may very well be dreaming...but did Ruger make a 4" SP-101 in .357 Mag back a few years ago?

Thanks.

Here is my newly acquired beauty

Thanks to the great posts and picks on this site, I decided to take the plunge and go with this great gun.

I also put on hogue grips and a clipdraw belt clip. Also am going with Glaser Safety Slug Silvers.

warriorsociologist, I posed the 4"-barreled .357 SP101 question a couple of years ago on another forum, and got no bites. Try Rugerforums; if anyone will know, they will. IF they will let you register. I keep getting rejected because they will not accept my e-mail addresses.

Thanks guys.

I think the 2" and 3" versions were probably the only ones in .357 too...but I was just curioous. I might still pose this over on the Ruger forum (I have a membership there, but I haven't "used" in a while).

I have been thinking about a Ruger SP101, I heard they are pretty tough. Those that have one here on this fourm, is it true? I was told they will handle hot rounds all day long and they are built like a tank. What is the weight of a SP101 in the 2 1/4 inch barrel? Thanks all.

You can find the weights and measurements on the Ruger website.
I love my SP101, and carry it every day. Right now I am over at a friend's house, and it is right next to be bed playing HD gun for the night.
Mine is in .357 mag with a 3"bbl. I can tell you right now, it's not as tough as a large frame revolver, but for a small guy, this thing is tough as nails. I have shot everything from mouse-fart .38's, all the way to firebreathing-dragon killing-butt stomping-full house magnums through it, and it handles them all gracefully and asks for more. Like any smaller gun, recoil can be stout with the crazy loads, but so much better than the super light weight guns.

Question Eagle Secret Service Grips vs Badger Grips

If you've had BOTH, can you tell me if the Eagle grips are smaller, i.e. thinner than the Badger grips? I have the Badger grips and they're beautiful but I found them a little too thick for my smaller hands and the spacing on the finger grooves felt just slightly off for me. I'd still like wood for mine but need a bit smaller. The Eagle Secret Service Grips look a bid smaller although their wood doesn't look as nice as eagles. If you've tried both, I'd love to hear from you!!!

And if you have any other suggestings on small wood grips for the sp101 let me know that too!

God Bless
Gideon

I traded into this SP101 this week. I shot a couple of boxes of 158gr Utramax reloads through it today at my behind the barn range from 7, 15 & 20 yards with excellent results.

It's a keeper!

BTW - Grip inserts are from 41 Magnum on the Ruger site

rdrancher...WOW,.... Thoses grips look very nice on that 101, VERY VERY NICE...I can't wait until I find a Ruger SP101, I still don't know if I want a 2 inch or 3 inch barrel. I have a Glock 17 that I want to trade off for the SP101. Why??... I don't know, I love my 17, I traded off a Glock 27 for a S&W 36 about six weeks ago and I fell in love with revolvers, I really love snubbies:D. I have been looking at pic's of revolvers and I got it in my head that I want a Ruger SP101 in .357.

Thank you magnum! First time with colorful type grips..and I like them.

I can't wait until I find a Ruger SP101, I still don't know if I want a 2 inch or 3 inch barrel.

I went through the same thing with barrel length. For me it's a comfort thing and the 2.25" fit the bill.

I have a Glock 17 that I want to trade off for the SP101.

I traded into this SP with a OM Ruger Blackhawk in .357 mag that I purchased from a former employee a few years ago. I had tons of .357 ammo and really didn't shoot the BH much, so off it went.

Nice grip inserts.
Jim does a good job with fit and finish doesn't he?

Thank you. And yes he does! He even included a trimmed screw for a flush fit.

The best part about the inserts is that you don't have to change the SP101's excellent grips.

Anyone have a 2 1/4" in .357 you want to sell?

Years ago I had a great shooting Speed Six and the 101 is kind of calling me back home.

PM me if you have one or are considering selling one.

thnx
