Speakin' of Dying Cartridges...

My M70 in 270WSM is a laser... Fast, straight, and hard hitting.

The ones that really didnt gain any traction were the WSSM cartridges. The 243 WSSM was a hoot to shoot. Killer varmint rounds.
Sooo ugly tho.....I honestly think that's what killed them, tho from what ive read early rifles had even more issues than the WSMs, which i did see a couple of first hand.

Performance wise they are pretty awsome.

That's obtuse.

Diminutive and semi-auto cartridges have a reason.

Large capacity field cartridges do not.
No, it's the logical conclusion. If you guys want everything to be a long action, that would include the thousands of BOLT ACTION rifles chambered in cartridges like the .223.

IMHO, there should be MORE action lengths, not less. Sako had it right.

But comparable long action cartridges already existed. The WSM's were developed for people other than yourself who wanted Magnum performance in a short action rifle. Hence the "S". "Better" how and for what?
You do sometimes run into functionality issues with staggered mag and too short cartridges as well. Or even single stacks and way to short cartridges.

Honestly its really personal opinion/preference. Personally i cant stand it, same as i cant stand slow twist barrels.... doesn't matter if it makes practical difference.

But short fat cartridges are so CUTE. :p And when all else fails you feed those cute little short fat and very dead cartridges from the left side.

The deadest cartridge designed in the 21st century, the 30 RAR. Designed in 2009, stopped making rifles in 2011, stopped making ammo in 2019. I am only 120 rds into it but I have not had a misfeed with my 30 RAR yet using the factory mag or a modified 450 BM magazines.

Here I was looking at the loaded magazine of my .450BM Ruger American, wishing the action was shorter. :p
You just need a longer bullet!

Or ream thst sucker out to take a .284 case cut flush with the shoulder!

Im 99% sure howas offering minis in the bushy....id be interested in one of those.

I think the 28 Nosler pushed out the 7mm Remington.
No it pushed out the older ubermags, the 7mags closest living competition is the .280ai, not as much recoil and better barrel life than the weatherby/stw/nosler/rum. The 7rm compared to the ubers is quite a civil athlete compared to a brawling lumberjack. (Got the stw in the stable, finding something tamer for a friend ;) )
Stupid autocorrect can't spell weatherby right, thus my edit.

They made a Browning composite stalker in 25 WSSM with a 24" light varmint barrel. That thing was cool!

I never expected the WSM's to catch on and around here the 300WSM was about the only one that did. I liked the 300WSM well enough that I built a custom. I also never expected the WSSM's to catch on and around here they didn't. I don't really expect the Noslers to do anything either.

Reviewing the empty brass that I pick up the 223, 243, 270, 7MM RM, 308, 30-06 and 300 WM are still holding their own. The 6.5 CM looks to be an up and comer. I pick up around 2 of the Weatherby offerings, the 257 and the 300. Occasionally a RUM, usually the 300. And then I usually pick up a few 7.7 Japs, 303 British, 35 Remington and 30-30s.

I was just curious if Winchesters partner Browning had a similar change or dropped cartridges in there rifle line. They still are cataloging all the dropped cartridges but 264 Winchester in one model or another. This includes their left handed models.

Nothing against the Model 70, I don't see many in the racks at the gun shops I visit. I see many more Browning A bolts and X bolts.

Wouldn't read too much into this.

The M70 EW/SS is kind of a specialty rifle.

They had a lot of offerings for it - and now, probably based on sales, they have fewer.

... with new offerings to come.

Im thinking i need a 7-08, and another 7-30, then maybe 7wby, and another 7mm stw and/or an Ultra.....then a LRM and other wildcats....heck maybe a 7valk, probably have to build another AR for it ..... actually I need a bolt action 7mm RM with enough twist, throat, and mag for dolla pop 190Atips
