I took my Kahr K-40 to the range yesterday and I noticed that the ejected brass was deformed. The brass was ejecting fine but it was scraped and bent on one side. The owner of the range looked at the spent brass, which was Winchester White Box, and determined that there was nothing to worry about because the gun was ejecting the spent brass. The fact that the gun is new and that Kahr sets their tolerences so close, that he felt the problem would gradually go away as the gun got broken in a little more. He also said that using the cheap WWB ammo could contribute to the problem. He determined by looking at the spent brass, that he could see where the extractor was engaging the casing and the scratches and bent part of the brass would have been facing up while the cartridge was in the breech. Possibly the slide was dragging over the brass as it cycled.
His opinion, don't worry about it Can any of you folks out there shed some light on what could be causing this and should I forget about it? Could the cheap WWB ammo be the problem? Will this problem go away with use?

Thanks-----------Jed

Brass can be ejected violently , the case can hit the slide and does in most guns ( HK P7 is one exception ). When it hits the slide it can easily be bent and scratched. I don't have a Kahr so I can't say what is normal or abnormal.

Glocks do it also with a hotter load.

What you are seeing is THE reason for all of the "lowered and flared" ejection ports that used to be custom on 1911's and now are standard on everything out there just about.

Look closely at your slide, you will see brass smudges on the lower edge of the ejection port. As long as ejection is good and they are going at least a couple feet away from you everything is fine.

TBH .. I'd not think the WWB was especially to blame at all ... it is not really any the less robust IMO.

True tho ... many guns do back the cases pretty thoroughly during ejection ... as far as reloading goes tho ... I find that in almost all cases (no pun meant) .... the process of sizing and flaring will generally take care of this ...... tho that may be of little consequence if you don't reload!

I have a Kahr K9 and a Kahr MK9. I have experienced the same thing with the brass from both guns (the MK9 is worse). I have several hundred rounds throuh the MK9 and and a couple of thousand through the E9 and have not experienced a single problem (except the slide stop pin broke on the E9, but that's a different story).

I don't know what is causing it, but I go go joyfully along my merry, ignorant way.

These deformed cases resize in the sizing die just fine when I reload but what really counts is that the gun is ejecting them. As long as it's working good I wouldn't worry about some dinged cases.

Yup I would not worry, My bersa .380, depending on the ammo, beats it up like this some time. The weapon has never had any issues or jams, just beats the heck out of the cases sometimes.

I have reloaded some of these cases, and a simple resizing works wonders.
