I'm wanting to buy a good .40 S&W and am considering either a Springfield XD tactical 5" or the Glock 22 and am curious if anyone has experience with both and which one they like better. I currently use a Glock 22 for work and am well familiar with it however there are a few things with it that I'm not to crazy about. Just curious to see what else is out there and what you all have to say.

I like the feel of the Springfield better then the Glock. I own a Springfield now and shoot it all the time. Just over 2000 rounds and no problems. I love it!

Honestly I love the Springfield XD....in 9mm. I do NOT enjoy their .40's too much. Mine suffered from a bit of trigger slap and Springy did not repair it when I sent it back.

I've owned 2 or 3 Glock 22's and a 23. Never a problem from any of them, though I did not care for the brisk recoil on the 23, the 22 does not seem to suffer from the same problem.

XD markets their guns as duty ready, but really they aren't, and I'll tell you why:

1.) Weak finish. Police guns get neglected big time and the XD needs some TLC for the most part.

2.) I practically trip over Glock armorers everywhere I go, but if I need an XD fixed? Back to the factory and a week and a half wait, thank you very much.

3.) After market support has gotten much better, but doesn't come close to Glock.

4.) Glock is the stick by which all others are measured. When comparing whether a gun is good or not, a Glock comparison is always somewhere down the line. No other gun can claim that.

5.) The Glock 22 is the most common police pistol since the Colt Peacemaker. There's a lot to be said for that.

6.) The fit and finish between a Glock and XD aren't in the same ball park, the XD is okay but the Glock has a lot more attention to detail. Though neither tops the fit and finish of a Sig Pro.

7.) Glock has proven itself over and over and over again to the point of stupidity. I'm sure the XD can hold up, but that finish sure gets tiring.

In Response to Alduro's complaint about XD finish

I have owned an XD9 for about 4 years now. I love it. I shoot much better with it than I do with a Glock. It has all the right features. I can't get enough of it.:) That said, I have not been happy with the finish. It has rubbed in a few places:mad: .

I hear that the XD45 has a new and vastly superior finish. That should be interesting.

Go with the XD-40 Tactical. The extra inch adds just the right amount of weight. To me, it feels like it has LESS recoil than my service XD-9. Looks nicer too...

MadHart, get the one that fits your hand best/feels best in your hand. Yes the XDs cost less, but the price difference isn't huge. Either one will work just fine, and both companies offer great warranty support in the rare case you ever a problem. There is no wrong choice here.

XD

Own both and prefer the XD over the Glock.
It shoots better for me, and it is a little more
"holster friendly" easier to find more comfortable
holsters for. Also I prefer the safety features on
the XD over the glock. On the XD, you have to
have your hand on the grip safety as well as the
weak glock style trigger safety. Also, the slide on
the XD will not move rearward unless you have the
grip safety depressed. Unless my son wants the
glock in about two years when he turns 21, it will
take a spin out to the next gunshow for sale.

The two BEST polymer .40s are the Glock and the Steyr. The XD is NOT even in te same league with these two pistols when it comes to length of trigger travel, trigger reset and lower bore axis. You will ALWAYS get shots off faster with a Glock or Steyr than a XD and that is CRUCIAL in a combat situation.

I would LOVE to hear the rational behind this.

I don't entirely agree, but the rational is right there in the original post. Take it for what its worth.

You'll get hammered with this type of back and forth forever. Alduro was on the money with his info on Glocks. I can't speak for the Springfields except to say I love my XD-45 but that is different from the 40 and 9.

How about this . . . CDNN has a great sale running on used Glock 22's. Buy one of those and try it out. You can always sell it for what you'll have in it.
