I have been thinking about getting a Glock 19 for a while but certain things keep me from buying one. I have never really liked the way any Glock feels in my hand but the 19 is the least akward out of the ones I have tried. Also, I really feel they are overpriced and I can't see spending $500 or more for a Glock. I do like the Glock grip angle better but that is about it.

I just checked out a Springfield XD for the first time yeasterday. It felt much better in the hand and I have heard nothing but good things about it. Does anyone have both? What are your opinion of each? How do they shoot?

I have an xd and shot a 19 a lot-to me the xd fits me a lot better. It has around 2500 rds and has never missed a beat.phdsc in Raleigh NC,has them for 395.00.419.00 for the bi tones. Some people say theirs rust easy, but I haven't seen the first bit on mine. There are also a good many aftermarket items aval now for the xd.check out pistol-gear.com..you could also but a 40 cal and get an aftermarket drop in barrel 9mm from efk for 150.00.

Glock and XD

I own both a Glock 19 and an XD40; although I like the Glock, the XD is a much better fit for me; I am more accurate with it, it just feels better; and my CZ40P beats them both!!

I owned 4 glock 19's and sold them all.I bought an XD-9 4" and I'm keeping it.The Springfield fits my hands better so I hit the POA,something I could never do with a glock.tom.

...another Glock vs. XD thread..anyone smell that horses corpse rotting? :scrutiny:

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other! Really, both are good guns and will serve you well if you do your part ;) Get the one that you can get the better deal on!

Serious Answer

Shoot them both.

I just finished some correspondence with another member here. We were discussing Guns, Gun fit, and how folks need to "try before they buy".

Prime example related in our messaging. Two indivduals with seemingly identical hands, one "Just Knew" a Glock 26 would fit the hands of the other - the hands are that identical. Hand have been measured , fingers measured...they can wear each others rings, ...really measured all sorts of ways...

Glock 26 ?

Nope.

XD-9 does though. Tendons are a bit more flexible in one set of hands than the other...just enough small difference to make a HUGE difference in gun fit to shooter.

Absolutely, buy what YOU shoot best.

Just don't put any cr*p ammo through either of them. Most of the dreaded G-Kabooms (which are fairly rare anyway) can be directly traced to user error, usually some oversight during a hand-load like a double-dump of powder in the casing.

Tens of thousands (if not more) soldiers, police officers, law-abiding citizes, and special forces trust Glocks with their lives on a daily basis, through some of the most extreme conditions imaginable...good enough for me.

Now, that being said, I've sold my Glocks and now own XD's. :D (What can I say? I shoot them better than my Glocks... They feel better in my hand, come to aimpoint more naturally, have the wonderful take-down disassembly bar like my Sigs, etc.)

Either way, if you buy what you shoot best, you won't go wrong with either of these two.

Having read all the raves, I had to at least try a Glock.
I rented one 3 different times, and never could get comfortable with it's trigger action. So I never could develop decent groups with it.

Then I rented an XD.
DAO trigger action was smooth and predictable.
Fit my hand nicely, pointed naturally, became "Part of ME" in minutes.

I still won't buy, have/hold, or use either one.
Why?

They're both UGLY!!!!!!!
Life is way too short to be stuck with an ugly gun.

I would get the XD. Have had my XD-9 for about a year and a half. No problems. When I go shooting with some of my glock friends. The are always wanting to shoot my XD. Most say that they would like to get one.

Have had many Glocks and 3 XDs. Now own zero Glocks and am getting more XDs. The XD shoots better, fits the hand better, doesn't have as good a finish (hint: clean your pistols).

Don't have a G19 but do have a G34 and an XD9 (standard length).

Like some folks, I just can't get use to the Glock trigger. I shoot fine with it slowly but speed shooting is out the window for me with it. Does not seem well defined. The single action feel to the XD trigger I much prefer as I like the feel of a definite point at which I know for sure the gun will go off. The Glock, though, does force you to be smooth and steady for the entire length of the trigger pull. Always a good technique to learn for any shooter.

Also like the feel of the XD in my hand over the Glock. I don't notice the grip safety when held and during firing.

The XD trigger is more SA than DA as the striker is fully 'cocked' and the trigger merely releases it. For the Glock, its more like DA as the striker is 'half-cocked' and the trigger fully 'cocks' and releases it.

Try them both out first. My biases might not be a big issue for you and you might like the Glock more.

I guess you can make yourself get used to the feel of any gun but, why? I think your decision seems obvious. ;)

I continue to be amazed at just how good my XD-9 SC is.

Fits me like a glove, points like a finger, conceals nicely, 100% reliable, and amazingly controllable in rapid fire.

I really enjoy shooting it.

Xd9

I have shot them both and I went with SA’s XD9 service. Then I got the XD9 sub-compact which is my carry piece now. I agree that the feel and fit of the XD is better than the Glock. Both are good guns but the XD is a better value. You get the same quality and functionality for $400.00. I have never had a function problem with either pistol.

Old Fud - the XD is actually a single action gun. The striker is fully cocked after racking the slide.

The Glock employs a "half cocked" or "1/2 double action" mechanism where the striker is 1/2 cocked and the initial movement of the trigger cocks it the rest of the way, similar to a true DAO gun.

True DAO guns and SA/DA guns generally have "second strike" capability so that if a round fails to fire, you can pull the trigger again. Neither the XD nor the Glock has this ability. How important it is is certainly up for debate.

Why not get both, shoot them, get familiar with them both. If after awhile one doesn't suit you get rid of it.
