I am in the market for a new pistol. It's main use would be recreational shooting at the range. Sometimes cc. I have a G17 and a G20, so I want something a little nicer. My 2 choices that I have narrowed it down to are a Taurus 1911 in 9mm or a CZ 75 9mm SS. Any recommendations based on experience?

I don't have brand bias but I do have bias toward the 1911, so I'd have to go with the Taurus. I have an acquaintenance who has had great results with his Taurus 1911.

The CZ line has a better rep for QC then the Taurus line.

I have found this to be true personally as well.

The CZ-75 is probably my favorite semi-auto. It's reliable, accurate, and fits the hand well.

Between those two choices, I'd go with CZ anytime.

Now, if you were looking at the choice between a CZ and a striker fired pistol, there are some nice plastic guns out there and they are a different type of gun then the CZ, so I can see why people like them. But, if you want a traditional SA or DA/SA gun, go with the CZ.

CZ vs. 1911 single action

I always like to remind folks changing the operating systems on a gun....think carefully...A single action always is carried cocked and locked with safety on,and this gun the safety is pushed down to remove and fire. With the CZ or any Beretta type (S&W etc.) The safety work in the exact opposite. The Glock has none (exc. trigger finger). So....what I am trying to say if you carry as CC gun don't mess up your mind by changing operating systems unless you really want to practice, practice .....practice. And even then when you are in a GOD FORBID, SITUATION WHERE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR HEAD HANDED TO YOU AND YOU ARE FUMBLING AROUND TRYING TO GET YOUR GUN IN ACTION. Or perhaps another thought.....if you are unable to defend yourself and your wife comes to your aid and in the panic, adrenaline rush etc. she too forgets how to remove the safey. Glock to me or Glock type are excellent for carry (Kahrs, M&P,XD's etc.) and they are wife friendly too.....PULL THE TRIGGER. jUST a thought.....I own them all.afish4570 :rolleyes:

What?

CZ Safety works the same manner and direction as a 1911 safety....and the CZ-75 should be carried condition 1.

afish4570,

The CZ can work just a like a 1911, i.e. condition 1 if you're so inclined. With all due respect, your post is in error.

I would also select a CZ over any Taurus I can think of (yes, I've owned some Taurus pistols).

Is the Taurus 1911 in 9 really out? I know they mention it in some of their magazine ads for the PT1911, but that means nothing. When I contacted Taurus about a release date for the 9, they said by the end of the year. Only question is, which year?

Get a CZ.
In 9mm, because such a fine Euro pistol deserves an Euro caliber.

Sp-01 is very nice (i have) but the 75B standard is way Stylish, IMHO. Stainless? Something I'm still dreaming about

Bring a smile every time you shoot it.

I will go for the underdog.

Don't care much for Taurus but I have heard good things about the PT1911
CZ what? :)

i love and carry the PT1911, but it makes no sense to get one in 9mm; it's a single stack, and there's no real reason to carry such a big gun with such limited capacity. i'd go with the CZ.
