Texas CHL Holder Killed - Unable to Draw in Time

Despite the fact that this guy was carrying, he still got killed. There's no telling if he tried to draw at all, or if he was dead on the spot. So why did he die?

Because he made a series of foolish choices: he met the guy at a fast food restaurant, nobody apparently knew the name of the guy he was meeting, and then the guy at the restaurant told him to go to an apartment building to finish the deal. That sounds, at the least, shifty.

It is possible that he was suspicious of the transaction, but due to the fact that he had his CCW with him, he may have felt more confident than he would have otherwise that he'd be safe. It's also possible that the possession of his CCW lead the other guy to shoot him, where he may have otherwise simply been robbed (ya never know).

The poor kid should've walked away from the restaurant and gone home.

So folks, don't think that just because you've got a CCW that you're Dirty Harry. Dont go making foolish choices and going places where it might be dangerous for someone without a weapon. Don't go to gas stations in bad neighborhoods late at night. Don't go to seedy apartments to meet shifty people. Et cetera!

It's sad to see that there are people out there that would kill someone for that amount of money. Well, may he rest in peace and all of us learn something.

Suspects Arrested

Two held in car buyer's death

Two suspects have been arrested in the slaying of a Waco-area man who was in Dallas to buy a car.

George Lilian Carter, 22, of Plano and Kendrick B. Demus, 24, were in custody Tuesday night on suspicion of capital murder.

Mr. Carter is accused of shooting 21-year-old Christian Marton, who had driven to Dallas to purchase a Chevrolet Caprice he found on the Internet. Mr. Marton was shot about 10 p.m. June 3 in the 8900 block of Vantage Point Drive.

The car sale may have been a ruse to lure Mr. Marton into a robbery, police said. He brought a few thousand dollars in cash with him and was given directions to the area in Lake Highlands where he was killed.

Dallas police Sgt. Gene Reyes said police are still investigating whether Mr. Carter was behind the Internet deal but said Mr. Marton's girlfriend, who witnessed the shooting, identified him.

Mr. Marton's girlfriend picked Mr. Carter out of a lineup, "and then we got physical evidence that corroborated that," Sgt. Reyes said.

It was unclear how much cash was stolen from Mr. Marton.

Investigators say that on May 30, four days before Mr. Marton was shot, he met Mr. Demus in the parking lot of a Whataburger at Forest Lane and Plano Road to discuss the sale of the car. A surveillance image from the restaurant shows a man who has been identified as Mr. Demus.

Mr. Marton, whose sister, cousin and girlfriend accompanied him in May, brought cash that night but couldn't reach a deal, said his father, Ilie Marton.

"Christian test-drove it and found something wrong," he said.

Later, the seller offered to drop the price, and Mr. Marton went back to Dallas. He was killed during that second trip.

Ilie Marton, a farmer in Axtell, said the arrests don't bring him much comfort.

"There's not going to be any relief," he said.

The elder Mr. Marton, an immigrant from Romania, said he's disturbed by such violence in the U.S.

"I worked so hard to raise my kids to respect everybody and to not do bad things," he said.

Anyone with information about the homicide can call 214-671-3661.
