So far, the Cabella's up by chicago is the best i've been to. I've heard Bud's in Indy is good for sight-seeing but too expensive to buy anything. EDIT: i meant Don's, not Buds. I googled it, apparently Buds is in Paris Kentucky. Don't know where i got that.

I've been known to frequent Downhams in Logansport.

    also, check this thread.

Good people and huge selection. I've never paid what the price tag say. They always beat everyone elses prices and are very polite and helpful.

I booted Don's off my site in 2004, after he showed up on the local news supporting a renewal of the AW ban...while standing in front of a wall of Evil Black Rifles.

Before I moved to Missouri after graduation... I purchased several guns from Les at Lafayette Guns and Gear.

He was always fair on prices and trades, knowledgeable, and I didn't have to put up with gun store commando BS in his shop.

Pretty decent, though not extensive, selection... too.

Thinking back over it... I bought most of my guns from him. And the ones I didn't get from him.... he usually did the FFL transfer for.

Whittaker Guns is the gun Mecca of this area. It is located right outside of Owensboro, KY.

BTW, don't let the website fool you, it sucks and isn't kept up to date. They have 10x the variety in the store as they do on the website.

    Check this out too

Inventory in the show-room is impressive and he stocks bulk ammo and reloading materials.
He doesn't have the cheapest prices, but he isn't pushy, only gives his opinion if asked, and is one of the nicest guys you'll meet.
Know going rates for firearms you are considering ahead of time.

    Call ahead.

In Indianapolis off 16th maybe 4 blocks east of the track (16th + Rochester)
Not a tremendous selection but nice guys. I've purchased two handguns from them(sig p226 and browning buckmark sill.). Both times I found the same comparable gun online for cheaper and they matched the price(after they verified it), except with the buckmark they were still a little more but they did knock some off. They just reopened last week from remodeling, I haven't been in yet to see whats new.

A long time ago, there used to be a guy in Indy who advertised heavily on TV. I think he ended every ad with, "I don't want to make money, folks! I just love to see guns!" His name might have been Don.

    Pretty colorful guy.

I live between Sportsman's Warehouse in Lafayette and Downham & Son in Logansport. Don't get to Logan all that much anymore. Down by the Tracks in Galveston is a little Mom and Pop gun store with good prices on firearms.

Last time I was in Guns and Gear it turned my stomach. Big sign on door "Law Enforcement only carry inside" or some such wording, peanut gallery of old know it alls just inside door, and ammo prices that I could have went over to Rural King and beat. Walked out and haven't been back. Never been to a Don's guns don't plan to. The only other store I disliked has closed.

Oh yea, every thread like this makes me miss Galayn's.:(

Sportman's Warehouse is O.K., I've purchased several guns off of them. Bought my Heller pistol off of them.

For Lafayette, I shop at Tippecanoe Sport Shoppe: http://www.tippysportshop.com/

Cool thing about Tippy Sport Shoppe is that they have a gunsmith. Stu is a great guy and has worked on many guns that I have purchased for my nephews as well as my own firearms.

I like "Lafayette Guns and Gear". Of course, I remember when it was downtown and I used to buy guns from Schuizi on Main and 5th on my lunch break.

Les has never blown me any grief over carrying in his store. I never pay attention to the peanut gallery. In fact, I bought an AK-74 off one of the peanut gallery as I was shopping and Les did not mind.

Ammo prices are decent. I'd rather pay Les and keep the money local, but that's just me.

I do well every now and then at Ram-Z. I've found quite a few treasures buried here: http://www.ramzs.net/. Check out the new building it's really clean.

There is a pawn shop were Ram-Z used to be but last I checked there was no FFL yet. The owner claimed he was awaiting an ATFE inspection.

I've bought guns off Stan at Applied Ballistics too. He's a 7 so you can get tubes and machine guns too, just not much on the shelf.

That's the problem with gun dealers in Indiana. No one likes to sink the dough into inventory. Oh, well, when I have my store. . .:p:D

AR, I miss Galyan's too. I used to work at the store on 38th on the westside of Indy during undergrad (nights and weekends). Sold guns to the Colts and Pacers.:)

Keislers is right across the river from Louisville, huge selection and the prices are decent.

I have bought my last 2 from the 111 gun shop in Clarksville. Nice selection and great prices.

Keistlers is a nice shop with a pretty good selection of guns and reloading stuff. Crossed the river last week to buy powder I couldn't find in my area outside of Louisville.
