The "carry pistol".......

Most days I carry my Springfield XD 45....

I like the .45ACP caliber for self defense, especially the 185g+P load.
And 13+1 rounds should be adequate for self defense.

The XD shoots very accurately, maybe due to the 1911 style grip angle, or maybe due to the nice single-action trigger.

For a "high capacity" .45 the XD carries surprisingly well.

The grip safety is a nice feature too--especially when holstering the pistol.

In a semi-auto pistol I like to carry a KelTec P-3AT or ! SIG P238 in a .380, and a Kahr PM9 in a 9mm.

In a lightweight .38 Special I would go with a S&W Model 638.

I haven't had to think about carry pistols until now, being an Illinois resident, but it seems the stars have aligned and we may actually get to carry in this fair(ly horrid) state. So, I have a dilemma. I'm not used to carrying. I don't like carrying anything bulky -- my keys wallet and phone are bad enough.

So, I'm in the market for something that is:

A) small enough that it can feel like it's not there, and
B) better than being unarmed.

Blackbeard, being from central Il. I've never carried in my life and now thinking how unusual it may be if and when it ever occurs?

I use to carry a 38 special stack barrel Derringer, for years off and on.I went to a Taurus .38 SPL +P about six weeks ago.I,really wanted more than a two shot's pistol while going walking for my daily exercise. The Taurus is a Polymer revolver.38 light weight that's my reason for the change in pistols.

Depending on weather, wardrobe, and mood, the following top to bottom: Kahr CW45, S&W M&P 9C, and Kahr CW380

A Glock 26 is what I carry. It is as big as I would care to carry and as small as I would care to fight with. Its easy to carry and conceal and shoots much bigger than it is. Its what I have been carrying for almost 6 years and feel no need to change that. Its what I shoot every week at the range and its a pretty good range gun.

Russian Makarov here. Tried a PF9 for a while, just couldn't warm up to it.

I considered carrying a Taurus TCP, one of the "Raspberry" Davidson's specials, but my daughter spotted it and "poof" no more TCP for me! :banghead:

She really likes it though, so I guess it was a worthwhile investment. Maybe one of these days I will pick another one for myself.

Nice choice, I miss my Makarov.

I carry a first series Glock 23. Have carried it since about 1993 or so. I started to carry small guns, like the LCP but eventually came to the conclusion that I have been able to conceal the 23 even while wearing shorts and a t-shirt, so why carry anything smaller?

My favorite serious carry gun is the Glock 23, love the size (that goes for the G19 and G32 also). But I don't carry it all the time.

If I'm running in town real quick I just slide either a Kahr CM40 and a spare mag into my pocket or the even smaller Kahr CW380 and a spare mag. Both shoot great and conceal very well in a pocket.

Sig 1911 is my EDC with an extra mag. The reason is I am more comfortable and accurate with it over any other pistol I have found.

Some flavor of 1911 (Commander or Government, depending on mood) or a poly .45 ACP, usually either a Glock 21 or 30S depending on weather.

If it's really hot, or if I'm not wearing pants, or if I'm lazy its a Ruger LCR .38 +P in a pocket holster.

1 or 2 spare mags/speed strips is pretty standard for me.

I carry what I've proved is reliable and what I shoot best. That's, after years of trying, turned out to be either SAO or Glock triggers in .45 ACP.
