I dont carry a pistol (Ive passed the required class and just have to find the time to get the CCP) but when I do get my licence Im not sure If I should carry a newer gun in a larger caliber (Glock 27) or go with my favorite pistol (Walther PPK in .380). I know it would make sense to carry a gun that holdes more ammo which is also more powerful, but I just love the PPK. Anyway, does anyone out there carry an older pistol? Do you have any pictures? Thanks

What do you mean by OLD? 10 years, 20, 50?

I do carry a 22 year old Seecamp. I just quit carrying a 17 year old Beretta. I would happily carry my 38 year old Walther PP or a 25 year old HK P7.

Contrary to popular belief, you should carry what you can hit the target reliably with.

You should carry what you are familiar with, so you can employ it w/o thinking about its operation.

All the bullets in the world don't do anything if they don't hit the target.

I carry a Walther PPK/3 in 380. It is one of the finest carry guns evermade.

I also carry a Glock 27
A S&W j frame
An old 38 S&W topbreak revolver
and a Keltec 32.

It all depends on where I'm going and what I'm wearing.

I really don't fret that much about it. I think it is more important to have the gun, than what gun you have.

I only change over I have seen since the advent of the hi-cap auto is that bad guys tend to end up with more rounds in them than they used to. Last year they took out a fellow who had escaped from jail. He wound up with a box and a half or bullets in him. He was a pretty bad guy, so I guess it doesn't matter that much. But I do think it reflects the "spray and pray" mindset that passes for training these days.

Worry about the first shot you fine, not the 7th.

Lately I've been carrying a S&W model of 1905 from the mid 20's.
Is that old enough?
6rds of .38spl, it worked then, it still works now...

I only own one handgun that could be considered new (S&W 638) ALL of the other ones range from 1908 S&W M&P .38 to my "newest" revolver 1982 Ruger Security Six!

Yes

Define "old".

Oldest one is a 1929 Colt Detective Special.

Basically I don't like the new guns and for sure some of the calibers that have come out.

Everyone please trade in your "old" guns and buy all these new and fangled guns.

For woods and trail, sometimes I'll carry this S&W .455 Mk II Hand Ejector from 1916, chambered in .45 LC.

There's nothing wrong with the PPK as a carry piece. One of my favorite carry pieces was a post-war PP in a big Galco rig. The thing was practically weightless and never printed. Right now I carry a Colt DS from the early 1950's. It's also a very nice, packable firearm that works great for CCW.

Between an old reliable favorite and the new hotness, there's not much competition. Carry what you WILL carry and what you're best with!

My always gun is a S&W 642 but occassionally I carry my Model 49 S&W I purchased new in 1983. It was my backup, ankle on day shift or front pocket on nights, in police work for 12 years.

The autoloader I carry was made in 1952 and is ballistically superior to the .9mm luger and the .45acp.

Mine has the wood grips instead of these lovely ivory grips.

Made in 1969 model 10 is my second most carried gun. As you can see it's a bit worn but still tight and works just fine:)

Gotta agree with nalioth on this one. Carry what is most comfortable for you. I carried my dad's old P-38 for a long time. I'm only replacing it because I want to start carrying concealed instead of just in my car.

Now that being said, if you want to carry something else you simply need to put in the extra time practicing.

Sometimes I carry a Makarov made God-knows-when. When the mood strikes me, I may carry my old Iver Johnson hammerless .38. It's 100% snag-less and reliable. However, I mostly have a recently bought P3AT in my pocket.

My newly ex-girlfriend, CCW-er that she is, wants small, small, small. She really likes the P3AT but, until she saves up, she's carrying a very tiny .22, a double action, 7 shot US Revolver Co. loaded with Aguila Super Maximums. It's at least 80 or more years old. It's actually a good little gun and she's very proficient with it, too. She can hit tin cans every time from 15 feet away.

BTW, even though we broke up, we still go shooting together. There are just some bonds that are too strong to break, you know?

My carry gun is only a few months old, but it is a very old style - Ruger Blackhawk. Lots of people say single actions aren't good for self defence, but I can unload all 6 in the size of a human torso just as quick as anyone with a 1911.
