After buying it, I found out what a lousy shot I am with a handgun

If this is your first handgun, then what you need is practice, not a laser.

Even with a laser, you wont be able to hit the target any better if you're either not accustomed to the trigger or jerking your shots.

My advice for you is to put some lots of rounds through the gun. Practice with the sights.

Ability outweighs accessories by a huge margin, especially when it comes to firearms.

Ole Codger,

Last pistol purchase? I don't know... I keep telling myself there's nothing more I could use, but I always find excuses...

Questions for you CZ'ers.

Mind you, I'd probably be one of you.. I've always wanted a CZ, but they just aren't available around here and most online companies I can find a reasonable price on won't ship to NY.

Anyway , here's my question. If I were to buy a CZ pistol , I would be torn between the CZ75 SAO model and the SP-01. I very much prefer C&L single action guns. I think I've seen it mentioned on forums that you can get a CZ75 converted into the SAO model, but I'm wondering.. assuming that the SA conversion is true, is it possible to get the SP-01 converted to use the single action model's trigger and action ?

Also. if so , I'm faily certain I could do the work and fitting myself, but would parts be readily available ? And what might they cost ?

Guess I've been a member for a couple of years and never knew it. My first semiauto was a CZ82 from AIM. After seeing just how nice that was, I had to add to it. A PCR came available, and it will never leave my possesion. Now, I'm keeping an eye out for a 75BD in matte stainless...

yes. it's easy, and parts are readily available. czcustom.com will give you everything you need.

please check the 40b mini site link in my sig.

you will need:
CZ SP-01 Manual safety model
cz competition hammer
cz steel or aluminum SA trigger

i recommend:
16# hammer spring for SA use only
reduced power recoil spring set 14# and 16# esp. if you reload
extra power extractor spring

not needed but if you like:
thin cocobolo grips or even thinner aluminum grips
target sights, the night sights aren't my taste for target/practical/sport shooting.

czforums has everything you need with guides on DIY.

when you receive the gun, completely strip if you can, and thoroughly clean the packing grease off. shoot a few hundred rounds down the pipe, and keep cleaning. once it's broken in, convert to SAO.

Your signature block sure preaches a fantastic sermon..........

Thanks. It's probably my favorite song by the band. Dropkick Murphys is an Irish rock band from Boston. I love the song because of its lyrics and meaning.

The full lyrics are...

Well I just got back from a break in the fight
I was weighing in heavy but still feeling alright
all I hear in the distance - mines and shells
here come the sirens wailing another attack to be repelled

Do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
you could sit here scared to move
or we could take them by surprise
it's submission that they want
it's surrender that they need
when we're doing it their way
their aims will be achieved

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not too well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them
show them what it's all about
this man is not for sale
there will be no backing down.

[Chorus:]
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you
We shall succeed,
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you

They won't get me, they won't get me
though they never cease to try
they won't get me, they won't get me
I would rather fight and die
they won't get me, they won't get me
well my friend will they get you?
when they get you, when they get you
tell me what you're gonna do?

Do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
you could sit here scared to move
or we could take them by surprise
it's submission that they want
it's surrender that they need
when we're doing it their way
their aims will be achieved.

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not too well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them
show them what it's all about
this man is not for sale
there will be no backing down.

[Chorus: x2]
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you
We shall succeed
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you

And to get back on topic...

I'm hoping to convert my CZ97 to SAO sometime next month. I'm wondering though if the mainspring really needs to be changed out?

No. I had a 15#'er in my 97 and the primer strikes were light, but sufficient. Once my sear and hammer wore in, the trigger pull lightened a little, almost to much. So I put a Wolf 20# mainspring (stock) in to up the pull weight. Trigger pull is still very light (love it!!).

Now the primer strikes are deep and positive. I never use the DA anyway.

Gun Depot in Pleasant Valley (Dutchess County) has CZ handguns listed on their website. I don't know if they have them in the store, and I don't know how comparatively reasonable their prices are, but it might be worth looking into.

Thanks for the single action conversion info burningsquirrels. I think maybe I've come to the conclusion that project is too pricey for me right now.. but maybe one day. It sucks being so poor. :(

Deere Hunter

Tnx for taking the time to print the entire song.......there's quite a message there......agree wholeheartedly..........

That seems like a bit much, Mike.

I simply used some hoppes to wipe off any factory gunk then oiled it up again.

Here's my new 75B Stainless. Stock configuration, plus cocobolo grips, reduced power mainspring, rubber mag bases and a drop-free mag brake. I've been wanting one of these forever, and I finally found one for sale locally.

Tmann.......

You're causing me to lust!! I have a new black 75B presently laying in the local post office. Since Monday is a holiday, I'll hafta sweat it out to Tuesday. Wanted a stainless but couldn't find one.....had to settle on the black. This is my first one though so can't wait.

That is one beautiful gun you have there. I'd almost dread getting burned powder on it!!!! Enjoy.....:D

That's not a gun, that's the marriage of steel and wood, pure art. Man those stainless CZ's are just gorgeous. CZ represents am amazing degree of quality for the price

Nice find Tmann, I hate you;)

Thanks, gentlemen, for the compliments. It is definitely the prettiest gun that I've ever owned. My other full-size handgun is a Sig 229, and I feel kinda bad for the poor thing. The Sig looks pretty homely compared to my CZ. ;)

Yeah, but if that '229 shoots the way my Sig P220 does, you can overlook the ugliness! You will just take the CZ to the dance......
