The FN Five-Seven: sexy beast

ROTHFL.
Still? You mean.....gasp....you don't?
Yeah, that'd be me too - one hand shooting. None of that two handed stuff.

You enduring antiques crack me up. I tried teaching my Vietnam Vet Gramps to shoot two handed, he refused and told me plainly that this is how you are supposed to shoot (one handed 19th century style). ;) Gotta love em. I figure I can't argue with them because they sure kicked some tail in wars past.

This whole shooting style discussion reminds me of a older friend of mine who, upon drawing his revolver (his one and only handgun, in .32 long nonetheless) will strike up some dueling pose and fire double action. Though I was unable to remain straight-faced when first seeing this, I will admit he's quite good.

I guess it's whatever works best for you.

And in competition too...

It ain't a 5-7 though.

Someone once described the Five-Seven, not derogatorily, as a "Ladies Home Defense Pistol."

I've seen those ads. Very dumb. Why? The five-seven is very thick around the grip. Women with smaller hands are likely to have an issue.

I'm not sure they're dumb ads as only people with very little firearms knowledge would pay $1000 for small pile of well fitted plastic parts. Well, not necessarily as some people have more money then they know what to do with.

Because one is a Kel-Tec, . . . the other is Fabrique Nationale. The Kel-Tec MAY be a decent pistol, but it is NOT on the same level as the Five Seven. All it takes is looking at both pistols as they are broken down. Do a google search. Look at the quality of the spring, the block, the barrel, the parts. . . . . it is easy to see how the Kel-Tec is only ~$300. The problem is that you SEE the 5.7X28 as "just like a .22 magnum, so why should it cost so much". There are $1,000 plastic guns out there that people buy. . . why? Because it is what they wanted. Could they have gotten something cheaper, sure. Does a person NEED a $1,500 Benelli [with plastic stock] when something half the price is available?

Thanks. I think the FN 5.7x28 is exactly what I need. It's high cap, light, accurate and ammo is about $20 per 50. I might even nix my 9lb 3" Winchester pump from the 50s for new Benelli or Beretta auto. That way my friends will no longer laugh at me.

Well, in my opinion, no one should laugh at another person for whatever firearm they may have. A Winchester pump would get the job done AT much MUCH less of a price. For the normal civilian, most don't need something like a Benelli, . . . which is used by those who are operators [military/police], but it all comes down to personal opinion.

Someone may absolutely hate the Five Seven pistol based upon their opinion. However, if that person absolutely loves Glocks [for example], yet I hate them, . . . should not mean that I should be able to make other people feel "stupid" for having a Glock. What I mean is. . . if I say, "anyone who buys a Benelli semi-auto when they could have a Mossberg pump is ridiculous", that is unfair of me, and is needlessly putting down another person.

I'm not saying that you did this, . . . . just to those "Five Seven pistols are just an overpriced 22 caliber pistol that is ineffective" types. To say, "I don't personally have faith in that round, but won't deride it or those who use it", would be a good statement, IMO.

All this to say, . . . forget what your friends may be "laughing at you" about [with what you own]. If it works well for you and you can make it pattern well, then it is a good firearm. :)

Pete, I sure wish mine had performed as well...I'd still own it. Have you run a full mag through it on paper. Maybe the fliers are more common than you think. Thats exactly what I found with mine. I do like the gun, and the round, I just wish it were available in a slightly heavier more robust firearm. I also think a slightly heavier barrel may help accuracy, especially after 6-8 rounds. That little barrel got pretty warm.

Finally got a chance to test the gun as noted above although not at 50 yards.
Was indoors with a friend who is a Distinguished Pistol shooter and who is in the market for a 5-7.
He shot a full box of ammo - two magazines steadily, one shot after the other with the reload between the two. The target picture is shots 29 through 40. Shot one hand unsupported at 50 feet. I wish that I'd saved the first couple of targets because his shooting actually got better as he progressed. The sights were set for longer distance shooting, so he held on the bottom edge of the target.

Nothing to complain about even with a hot barrel.
