Hi all,

Match Director JustSayMo and I are hammering out the final details. Mo will have it pulled together in a few days. To answer the questions on the table:

This is an 8 1/2 by 11 target. The idea is that you can print out as many as you want. Future matches might have a similar approach where we will provide the pdf file, you print and shoot.

Think of this target at 25 yards. Also think of multiple shots per circle. Mo' later....

I sure hope I can get that parallax adjustment done pronto quickly.

It would be a lowdown dirty shame if I had to pull my Mueller APV 4.5-14X40AO off of my model 60 for the shamrock shoot!

I wonder how that would work?

Mal, I think you need to post the picture with detailed instructions on proper duct tape scope mounting.

Fast, Leave the scope on the 60 and try duct taping the model 60 to your 39...? I'll add a class in the postal match for 'double rifles.'

I'm not going to mess with any of that. The Mueller on my model 60 is zeroed fine enough to blast off a gnat's nether regions, and I'm not messing with it.

If Leupold can't get my parallax problem solved in time for this match, I'll shoot it iron sights.

If I just HAD to do something different, there's a nice red dot sight on my pellet rifle that might be fun.

But that sight is working very nicely too...

I really hate messing with a good thing.

So I fired off an email, right?

That was Monday.

Now it's Friday. No reply so far.

I wonder how long "Right Back" is?

I just realized today that I've never fired my 39 with iron sights. I scoped it right after I bought it and it's been that way ever since.

I've never gotten very far with any big company going the email route. It's just too easy to ignore or they don't take you seriously. I'm not talking about Leupold here but most big outfits.

When you first mentioned that you had emailed them I started to message you but dropped it when I got sidetracked with something else. I was going to suggest picking up the phone and talking to them in real time. I have talked with them several times and was treated very well every time.

When I had the exact same thing that you want done to your scope done to a VXIII a couple of years ago they got it back to me in a surprisingly short time. I think they said it would be two or three weeks but it was back in about half of that.

Of course now the weekend is in the way but first thing Monday if you get on the phone you'll have your scope to them and back before you know it.

So I was messing around with the Leupold 2-7X rimfire scope on that puppy that followed me home.

(Added by edit: just to be absolutely clear in case
an anti- reads this some day: "puppy" refers to my 39A.
I wasn't using one for target practice. )

I was practicing pointing it at a five spot target on my wall when I realized that it (the scope) was mounted too far back.

So, I began to adjust it. I began to loosen screws on the rings, trying to edge it forward.
I wound up having to take it completely off, reset the rings on the mount, then put the scope back in the rings.

Once again, as so many times before, I was having trouble getting the crosshairs lined up
so that the vertical hair was true vertical when the gun was vertical.

Finally, I learned a new trick.
Looking under the scope,
I lined up the front post with a vertical edge on a wall,
then moved my vision up to the vertical hair.
By making slight rotational adjustments on the scope
while keeping that front post vertical,
I was able to adjust the scope.

I'm sure there are better ways to do it with the right technology. (I don't have a bore sight.)
But this worked better and quicker than anything I've ever done.

I also realized how much I missed this rifle. Dang, it was at the smith's since June.

Too long to be without it. Never again.

Something will follow me home tomorrow. I found a 39 carbine. The kind with the 3/4 magazine, tappered barrel and straight stock. It was made in 1964 Y prefix. I will consider myself the 2nd owner because the little gun shop that had it, bought it from the original owner. He thought he still had the box but can't find it. I would say this litte rifle is 100% except that the white plastic spacer has shrunk a bit. Where can I find a replacement? Anyone?

You bet I will Nem. I saw it at the gun show last week. The man gave me his card but I lost it. I had to make a few calls but came up with the guy's business phone number. I tracked the rifle down today, 25 miles from here and I bought it. We have a 24 hour waiting period in my state so I go back for her tomorrow.
