Frank,

That is one nice mount!

When I bought my '80 39A, it had the aluminum Weaver mount on it.
I thought it was rather flimsy and really didn't like the idea of an aluminum mount on an otherwise all steel rifle.

So, after bringing the rifle back from the depths of degradation, I found a Redfield dovetail mount in the 5 dollar bin at my local fun shop.
I had my Son mill a step to clear the receiver, drilled & countersunk a hole for the front mount screw (the rear was good to go), and mounted a Weaver K4.
If I want to use irons, I just remove the RH screw & turn the scope 1/4 turn to remove.
It goes back on just as quickly & holds zero.

Nice setup Hud!

Can you show us some pictures of how it mounts and un mounts from the receiver?

EDit. OK I thought about it some more... the base remains and the rings twist out! Nice

Thanks LH

Merry Christmas, everybody.

It feels good to have the disputes all settled and most of us here.

For those that have not made it back home, I wish all the best and await their return.

This group of people here at the 39club has proven to be a real down to earth bunch that represents to me what's good about America.

Good old traditional honesty and values. Like our rifles, there's iron and steel in this group of men and women.

I am proud to be a member of this group.

Now, off to celebrate with family and friends here at home. I hope this holiday goes well for each and every one of you.

Can I come play!

Finally (after lots of searching) Im a proud owner of a '75 39M!

Nice lowepg,
What kind of rail is that? Looks like a 3/8" dovetail...

Merry Christmas to the 39ers!

This was my big Christmas gift, and I'm very happy ;D. Marbel Arms tang sight.
Mounted and did a 30yrd laser bore sight this morning, if the snow holds off I'll get it to the range in the next couple of days.
A few pics, this is a nice piece of machinery...

Merry Christmas to all!

Nice lowepg,
What kind of rail is that? Looks like a 38" dovetail...

Merry Christmas to the 39ers!
No idea.... this is the exact condition and configuration i bought it in. Only thing the seller said was that he had the extractor replaced like 10 yrs ago.... hardly shot in the last 5....

Lowepg, any way we can get a shot of that rail from the top?
Maybe a close up of the side, too. I'm curious.

And I agree with Frank: beautiful grain.

Dewalt, wow!!!! I've never even heard of one of those for a 39,
let alone seen one. Looking forward to a range report.

Fella's;

Love the wood on Dewalt-2's gun. That's what I'd like to get to re-stock my 39A. I simply like the straight grain walnut with the fat forearm, no white-line spacers, look. However, finding some is getting to be a chore. There's no problem finding fancy wood, custom stock providers abound, but all I'm wanting is direct replacement factory furniture. There's a guy in Arkansas that supposedly has replacement wood from time to time, but he won't answer his phone. Ipso-facto, I won't give him any money. Funny how that works.

Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year.

I'd bet it's one like this....

3/8 mount, don't remember when or how I got it. It's been in my Marlin parts box forever...

Dewalt-2 : That looks great! Practical and correct on a levergun. Are there plentiful long range targets in your area? I suspect that rifle is capable of some serious off the scale grin factor with that sight and some way distant targets. Can't wait to read the range reports. Fast Frank posted some truly inspiring long range 39 video a few years back. Amazing what these rifles are capable of.

CB900F: I bet you could trade your fancy to someone in the club with a plainer stock.

I wanna belong!

I swapped a 9 mm semiauto handgun that I never carried for this vintage 1946 39A, my first Marlin.

The target is 10 shots over a rest at 25 yards. I was aiming at the bottom of the inverted "T", and you can see where they went. With my 67 year old eyes, I am very pleased...I know that the group would be smaller with a scope, but I kinda like the look of a lever gun with its original iron sights.

The action still seems a bit stiff on this old fellow. Any suggestions for smoothing it up will be appreciated.

OK, read carefully and pay 'tension now. I want a plain set of "fat" furniture for my 39A. What's on the gun is not fancy wood, it's old, distressed, and abused.

Bubbee is here. Dude, welcome.
Good to see you. Glad you found us.

J-Bar, welcome. Wow. We've got a string of classics coming in.
And that group with iron sights? Nice shooting!
