im fairly sure its been restocked, and im not sure whats going on with the finish. Sure is some pretty wood though, the wood looks to be a maple varity. Im not 100% sure on the rifle though, im more familar with the 39a's. good luck and it looks nice.

Nothing from the internals because it was just too gruesome on both items.
All the original factory lubrication had lacquerized itself. That's all cleaned up now and the wood was wiped too because sometime in the 26-years they were hanging on the wall, someone must have sneezed red chili with beans at them.

I'm not sure such a permanent attachement is a good idea regardless of what is being celebrated/commemorated ... even the NRA Camp Perry Nationals.

He was a little high but one click on the ramp did the trick.
These are the first 30 through Randy -- the 39AS

Randy wasn't nearly as well "Targeted" as Walter
and it took several adjustments. He doesn't find the Blazers as tasty as Walter did.

I shot the extras through Randy trying to get used to the, to me, VERY noticable "Ping" that the AS variety gives. "Disconcerting" may be too strong a word but it is a "different" (moving toward "weird") sensation. In any case, both my "boys" can obviouly out-shoot me.
I'm reminded that 15 years ago the eye-doctor asked if I was ready to talk about the "B" word. He scared me 'cause I thought he meant "Blind" ... it was bifoculs; and I'm still trying to get used to them.

Hi Everyone, New user here. I found you researching my old 39A. I tried the SN# lookup site but the gewgaw seems to be busted on it. I have been shooting this since I was 8 years old (thats a long time ago, BTW), when My dad got tired of the chipmunks running wild at the cabin in Cumberland WI and my BB gun wasn't cutting them back fast enough

I am guessing 1953? It is still the most accurate rocksolid .22 I have ever fired, with one very notable exception of a match grade rifle with a ridiculous scope.

Welcome aboard! I'm sure someone will know about the date your 39A was made. I think I have a list of numbers and dates, but can't remember where. (Gettin' old and forgetful.)

Ghost, your story sounds like mine....J rifles made in 1952, are awesome rifles. My brother has my dad's J rifle I shot when I was 8. I bought J185** myself. Cumberland, eh? My wife's family have had a place on a lake just outside of Cumberland for about 40 years. Can i prove it ? Yes, I've purchased brats at Louies before

Very nice to virtually meet you. I was conceived on the shores of "Big Dummy" lake (some claim thats why it was named so...) and I now live about 45 minutes towards the cities from there, so we still get Louies meats all the time.

My in-laws place is on the north side of Spring Lake. My wife's grandfather built the place back in the early 70s. We spent some time there this summer but haven't been there too much over the past few years.
Here are the pair of J models in my family. The first picture is my dad's rifle. He went to work for TWA 2 weeks after high school graduation and bought this one new for $60 with his first check. He's promised it to my older brother so I had to buy my own.
I bought this one a couple years ago for $545 plus FFL. From a collector perspective, I probably spent too much. I really wanted a J model like my dad had so this one was worth more to me. The condition was over 98% so it was a sweet deal for me. I wasn't buying to collect or resell.

Hey guys, hope you can help me out.
After my brother passed I recieved his 39A with the E prefix, so it was built in 1947.
Over the years the hammer was shortened to accomadate a scope and also the rear sight is no longer on the gun, I need to find these parts.
Any help would be appreciated as I want to get this fine piece back to original condition.

Rear sights can be found.
The correct sight is a milled leaf. It looks like a stamped sight, but it's milled steel.
The front of the sight is in an arrow-like shape.
Original early post-war hammers are almost impossible to find. It's possible to fit a later pre-safety hammer but it requires some alterations to fit correctly.
Gun Parts does list an early 39 and 39-A hammer but I don't know if this is the correct type or not, nor does it list the condition:

Anyway, I acquired the rifle with some bad fading of the bluing on the barrel. It's not too extensive, but I was wondering if it would affect the value of if I got this repaired by a gunsmith. Here's a photo:

Hello, I just acquired by trade a 1985 Marlin 39A. I got it 3 days ago and after firing a few rounds through it I took it apart for a cleaning and to refinish the stock. I am new to this forum so I am not sure of the ways to post, but I'll try to insert a link to a photo of the completed job.
