My only 39 is this Centenial Model.

Anyone with newer 39A have any issues with the "spring" type extractor?
Has anyone changed out that spring type for a milled solid extractor like that sold by Wisners? I bought a Wisners just to have in case these parts should start to dry up. I admit it doesn't seem likely as long as these rifles have been made. I haven't had any extraction issues but wanted a decent spare just in case.

What a 39 should look like.

IMO, a .22 rifle doesn't need a 24" barrel,
and is even encumbered by one.

to post 3648.....I have seen one M39 with the "spring" style extractor that was broken. The end of the bent/U shaped end that grabbed the cartridge rim was broken off so it would not catch the rim anymore.

Anyone have any experience with the machined extractor from Wisners?

Noticing the forearm on Savage 23's model 39, has anyone heard that style called a "perch belly"? I always just said 'fat forearm', but what do I know?

Very common to calk it perch belly, typically from the early to mid 50's.

IBD, I have the Wisner's in my '08 Golden. Much better than the stock piece, which I broke trying to adjust it. You have to file down a couple of nubs, then tap it into place. They work perfectly.

Got a new 10gun Cabinet last Christmas and it's got 4 empty spots, and I'd like to fill one with a 39Marlin since I'm a 22-squirrel rifle nut anyway! Bought one new in 1977, a gold letter edition of some kind, can't remember exactly, long barrel, anyways who'd figure in 77 that a 39 would give an ejection problem but mine did. It was a shooter tho but I traded it back to a remmy auto! From what I've heard in recent years is that I don't want a new one? Was squirrel hunting 2 years ago and ran into an old acquantace and he's packing a 39Century Ltd.made in the early 70's (I believe?) he'd just traded for. First one I'd ever seen and found out it's bought new right here by a buddy of a co-worker of mine. Now that was one proud old squack hunter! Roam the woods around here long and if you run into a rifle-squirrel hunter there's a good chance it may be a 39! Maybe I'll round me one up soon? I'd sure like one of the Ltd.Ed. small game with the gold squirrel on the side! Feller need's to have plenty squirrel rifle's!

Could of it offended someone who doesn't own a 39? I wouldn't flat out say it was but..... In other news I'm working on a stock for my lever 22 mag (1894 though), and going to pickup a1960 mountie here in the next month. I'll get some pics up once I get the mountie.

I just got on the Marlin 39 bandwagon a year or so back.

In my old age I wanted to do a little casual target plinking, and I kept hearing good things about the Marlin 39 series, so I wanted to try one..

As with potato chips, I found out it's hard to stop with just one, so now I find myself with 5 Marlin 39's.

I have a 1950, 1975,1996, and two 1970 Century Limited's..

I think the little Century Limited with it's "brass bling" and octagonal barrel is a beautiful little rifle. The shorter barrel, and lighter weight makes it for easier carry in the woods, and the accuracy is certainly right up there with my regular 39A's..

My first 39 was the 1996 bought at a gun show in Savannah, Ga. last year. It has the cross block safety and rebounding hammer, but it shoots very nice, and I don't have an issue with either of the changes. In fact for a young person new to guns I might even think these two changes in the old 39A are not a bad thing at all..

I have 39's with factory sights, Redfield and Williams peep sights, and scopes, but the one I most enjoy shooting (target shooting) is the 1975 w/Williams peep sight.

That sucker is deadly accurate. (Well, "deadly" in that even with my limited marksmanship skills it'll generally put 'em where you want 'em..)

When I was a young boy with my first 22cal rifle (bolt action Remington) my friends and I would shoot cans and when we hit 'em we thought we were doing great. The inherent accuracy of the Marlin 39 series make "hitting" a can from casual target distance a given.. Now it's down to WHERE on the can you want to make a hole.

And that'll bring a smile to your face I guarantee you, even at 69 years of age.

I wonder if someone felt that the 39 club was incorrect grammatically, like a flock of wolves or school of rocks... Maybe there is a correct term like Pride of Lions or Murder of Crows out there that some research might turn up or perhaps we could come up with our own term for the "group."

The society of 39 enthusiasts (a bit too high brow maybe), the gaggle of the goodest Marlin, the fanatics of fine cowboy rimfires, the luckiest leverdudes... or the crucible of curmudgeons (hopefully that is inclusive enough..) or something like that.

I can sort of see the word club being offensive to some as the 39 is obviously not a club though it could be used as one if the magazine was empty

I WILL post a pic but a question first. I recently traded for a mid 60s 39 with a nice williams target style peep. My issue is the lever is not centered when closed i can push it to center but then it just goes back to the side. It is almost to the edge of the tang and pretty loose.

Any idea

I've never seen anything like that from the factory.
All I can think of was that someone stamped something there, and someone else milled the shallow slot to remove it.

The slot looks like it was cold blued.
