The Mosin Nagant Club

I missed several opportunities to buy a Mosin several years ago for $50 each. I've always wanted one, and I finally broke down and had my LGD order me one. Took me the better part of a day to get all the cosmoline out of it.

The 1943 Izhevsk M91/30 is probably the most plentiful and common one around. This one is nothing special, but the bore is decent, and the price is right. These things have a lot of history, and that fascinates me. This one probably saw some action in WWII. They are great shooters too. I'm off to the range today with some Russian surplus ammo to have some fun with it.

Its the scope. It is a very accurate rifle without. What kind of scope are you using?

I have a Mosin Nagant , Polish factory 11 carbine that I picked up for $275.00 unfired. Sweet shooting gun.

I'm jonesing for a hex receiver model now. Classic arms has some beauties at the moment. It's gonna have to wait until my C & R comes through. No use making the local FFL rich. :)

Just ordered this m39. So I'll post the dealers pic in the mean time. 1895 Izhevsk receiver. "Antique"

What do you guys think is the best way to put a scope on my mosin nagant 91/30. It has a round receiver and I would like to do it myself (without a gunsmith).

Luke,

I would use a bolt-on scout mount. It will save you from drilling and tapping.

Do not use a cheap one though... you've been warned!

Josh

No man, no. Huh uh. You want something that will last more than a couple range sessions. You can't get a good mount alone for that.

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26104/Product/MOSIN_NAGANT_MOUNT <--- IMO, this is the only one worth getting.

Another tip -- if you pull the rear sight off, there's a 3/8th dovetail under it. You can get a conversion for a Weaver mount. Might save a bit of money: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=18690/Product/3_8__DOVETAIL_TO_WEAVER_ADAPTER

Now, as to 'scopes... you cannot get a decent 'scope for under a couple hundred. Not one that will hold zero and have halfway clear optics.

If you go with one of the cheap things you're looking at, you'll end up deciding the Mosin-Nagant is not accurate, or become frustrated, or both.

Either be prepared to spend for a decent scout mount setup, or get good with the iron sights.

You might also look at a turned-down bolt handle (they run about $50) and just have it drilled and tapped with a PU, PE, or PEM mount and scope.

All you have to do is drive two pins out. Go to automotive store and get a long skinny punch, smaller then the pins. Doesn't take much just the proper tool.

I somehow missed this thread. Can I join? ;)

(please note that yes, it's an SBR, and yes, I paid the $200 tax ages ago and currently hold the stamp on a F1)

PTK OUCH!

I just picked up a really sad 1945 Tula M44 (I ass u me it is a Tula, it has triangles with arrows on nearly every part) I cold blued the receiver, stained and oiled the stock. (was white on blonde :)
The Bore looked REALLY bad at first- scrubbed it with a brush and Hoppes at first, shot it, used wipe out- The rifling began to look better...frosty but strong. Shot it again, used wipe out again, now its starting to even look shiny...

Are Tula M44s chrome lined?

Super fun to shoot!

Hey folks, shameless plug here.

If you guys like the sights I make, there's no waiting as of tonight. I just finished the last ones on the order list.

Thanks,

Josh

i would have not welded that onto the reciver. that weakens the metal of the gun and could cause it to fail later....blow up in face fail. its the reason i tapped my scope.
Your right it softens the metal that's why it is minimally welded it, small and precise. If you think those welds are going to make the gun blow up in my face I'd say your speculation is far from reality, but you know there's never a shortage of experts.

That is what I imagined would be a good bear gun.

Daddy like! Too bad about laws I'd have a dozen of guns that could have been modified to some sort of creation like that. Instead they usually get traded or sold.

Picked up a 91/30, 1943 Ruskie with the triangle, whatever that means.

I haven't shot it yet, but the feel is nice.

I used to have a M91/39 rifle and a M44 carbine a couple of years ago, after i did the sticky bolt syndrome fix they both shot wonderfully.

Now, as to 'scopes... you cannot get a decent 'scope for under a couple hundred. Not one that will hold zero and have halfway clear optics.
This i will aruge all day long with you.

PTK why do you need a sawwed of mosin nagant?
He wanted a MO-NAG

Might as well add mine in on it. One member missing from family Izzy 91/30. But heres the others.
