All,

I had recently sold all my handguns to fund another project. So, I am jonesing seriously for a new one ... With the project complete I have been out shopping and have a list of disparate pieces.

FN HP - Slightly used, private sale, good price, cheap hi caps, owned one before and really liked it but not over excited about buying it.

CD EMS - Questions its reliability and hate the finish for some reason. But I have lots of .45 to use and some great McCormick mags waiting for another 1911.

SW/Walther 99 9mm - Nice guns, a little pricey but I found them for $499. Hicaps are expensive, but .40 mags are not :D Plus I found a used SW for $420.

Firestorm .45 Mini Compact - This is a special order gun, great price and 10 round capable. Extra mags are costly.

Glock 20 10mm - Found one for $425. BIG HOCKING firearm. 10mm runs aout $14 for 50 around here in Atlanta and I could prob find it cheaper if I looked around. I dont usually like Glocks, but maybe this one would be a
good acquisition.

Steyr M9 - I like this gun so much and seeling it was a mistake. Maybe I should get another and some M40 mags this time.

I am looking for a CCW weapon or open carry in the case of the Glock. I quess I dont really know what I want .... Nothing has leapt out at me ...

Help Me Decide?

Why not check outd the CZ 97B in 45 cal. It holds ten rounds and from every review I've read its incredibly accurate. About the same price range of some of the other you've been looking at.

I would go with the Steyr, but I would look for an S series, but if I couldn't find one then the M would do just fine.

Second choice would be the Walther/S&W, then the firestorm.

I would steer clear of the Glock just for the reason of cost of ammo. Now if it was a second gun then that would be a different story.

Steyr M9 - I like this gun so much and seeling it was a mistake.
I think you answered your own question there. Since you have no handgun now, get one you know you like and that will serve you well.

Plus, I tend to favor 9mm for an "only" gun. It's a good, cheap, general purpose round that won't cost you an arm and leg to practice with.

You can always get one of the others later.

Hi-Power. Svelte enough for CCW, big enough for a belt gun. Plenty of magazines available.

Given your list of options:
I'd flip a coin between the FN HP and the Steyr.

Other Suggestions:

CZ-97B
CZ-P01
CZ-PCR
SA-XD

However, I was in your shoes recently and decided to go an alternate round alltogether...

Revolvers.
I've had more fun lately with my .357 and .44... And while FUN is important, stopping power is too, and I hear some folk talk like these can do the trick.

a big thanks to all ...

I have to admit, the answers varied more then I thought.
To explain, I sold off the handguns to fund a new shotgun stock. Black Walnut is expensive ....

Another issue is that I am a lefty and need ambi or neutral controls.

I have narrowed it down to the Glock 20, the HP and Steyr.

uuughghhghgghghghghgh ... like choosing between the redhead, brunnette or blonde to dance with ......

If it is going to be your ONLY gun, I'd definitely say go with a 9mm! It's cheap to shoot, which means it will get practiced with often... and practice is the most important thing about shooting. Sure stopping power, ballistics, etc. are all fine and good, but if you can't hit your target, they mean jack ?????.

I really don't think I could get by with just one gun. I think maybe I could narrow it down to 2 - a .22 pistol and a 9mm.

I would strongly recommend a CZ75B. Accurate, tough, cheap to shoot, and downright czexy!

I say go for the Glock. The 10mm is an amazing round, and can be loaded to suit practically every taste. Plus, if capacity is an issue..I believe that the Glock 20 can accomodate 15 round mags + 1 in the pipe....although it may be 13. Cost of ammo can be a concern....but if you check around, there are good deals to be had. Plus, if you reload...it is completely a non-issue.
Go check out the 10 ring forum on Glocktalk. There is a wealth of information to be found there. BTW...the price you mentioned sounds very reasonable to me. If I had the money...I would love to have a G-20. Until then, I guess I'll just suffer with my 10mm 1911......hehehehehe!!!:D

I'm a real big fan of the .45 acp, but I'd go with the Hi Power from the list you provided.

Outside of that list I'd look into CZs (97b):D, SA (mil spec), and Ruger Autos(P90).

If you get the 20, with a simple barrel change later you have a 40, a 357 Sig, a 38 Super (yes it just takes swapping barrels), a 9x25 Dillon. Plenty of choices there to enhance your shooting pleasure.

I couldn't help it ....

It was like I was possesed by some dark evil creature ....

Since I started this thread I have had haunted ... dark ... scary daydreams and night times dreams about one of the guns ... It was like it was calling me back to the gun shop ... "Come get me ... I will serve you faithfully. I am powerful and will protect you and your loved ones ..."

This is the gun I swore I might never own ....

GLOCK 20 .....

Nice gun, lightly used for $425 with two 10rnders.

A range report is coming soon ...
