Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Glock 19, but I've heard rumors, being a left-handed shooter, that the shell casings will be ejected towards my face. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

For a pistol, one usually hold it two-handed directly in the front at arm's length. Whether you shoot left or right handed, the gun is held at about same location. So I don't think it matters that much...(for a bolt action, that's another thing)

Glcks require that you lock your wrists when firing. A lot of people confuse locking your wrists with how hard you grip a Glock. If you lock your wrists empties usually won't fly towards your face.

I shoot a Glock 20 and have never had a problem with cases hitting me. They are ejected to my 3 o' clock and usually land about 8 to 10 feet away. I don't have particularly meaty forearms or wrists and don't really keep a white knuckle grip on it. If Double Taps from a 10mm don't do beat me up, I doubt you'd have much trouble with a G19.

Don't worry, I'm not completely sold on the Glock. I'm also considering the Sig P226, the Springfield XD9 and the HK P2000.

I'm a lefty who feels totally comfortable with my G19, including the mag release button. It's about a perfect combination of size, weight, capacity, dependability, and accuracy for me.

"Don't get a Glock. They don't feel right in the hand, don't point naturally, and have staple-gun-like triggers."

Well, maybe for you, sir. But an awful lot of shooters find that they are easy to grip (especially 3rd generation), point well, and have a trigger that can be easily modified. If you don't like them, don't buy one.

True, they don't point like a Hi-power or Colt SAA, and no one will ever say its trigger breaks like glass, but...my Glock 19 shoots better than any 9mm I have ever tried. Its a second generation police trade-in. I'm a horrible pistol shot, but I could hit plinking targets at will the first time I shot it. I ran through a box of +p+ ammo without any hiccups, it shot to point-of-aim, and recoil was nothing even with the +p+ ammo.
I'm sold. And I'm a revolver and SIG fan.

I have owned and shot 3 G19's and have heard of the "eject toward your face thing" before. None of mine functioned in this manner. Regardless, if it does happen a Glock armorer should be able to resolve the problem. If you are focusing on your front sight post hard enough maybe you won't notice hot brass bouncing off of your forehead!! The G19 is ultimate for it's size, weight and lethality. Don't hedge on buying one because of this.

see, comments like these are why i don't base my purchases on internet reviews. the glock is as good a weapon as anything out there. i alternate my carry weapon between a springfield loaded operator and a glock 19 - both get the job done. ultimately one's inability to function a glock is probably due to the shooter and not the weapon.

Well, I traded my Glock 17 for a Springfield XD-40.

Why? the reasons mentioned above...doesn't point well (if your used to 1911s) and horrible trigger.

I don't care if I never see another Glock in my safe again. Totally sold on the XD platform. Utterly reliable, better grip, better trigger, lifetime warranty and cheaper than the Glock...whats not to love?

Be sure to check out the XD before buying a Glock. I know that is going to tick off the Glock lovers, but I gave up 8 years of Glock shooting for the better feel of the Springfield XD. Its that good.

(Glock people hate the XD for the same reason the Colt 1911 people hate Springfields and Kimbers...their market is being eaten away)

I don't know if shell casings will be a problem. However, I don't think you will easily find a left-handed pistol, other than a H&K that is as good as a Glock without dishing out a crapload of $.

Shooting left shouldn't be a problem with any gun listed. I do think that you should go fond, ahem, I mean feel the gun out and go based on those decisions. What one person likes, another may not. Personally I like 1911's and my XD. All of the weapons you listed are fine guns.

Probably Glocks finest, awesome pistol. Perfect size and balance, can't go wrong with a 19.

That's not the issue. I've had three Glocks (two compacts, and one sub compact). Currently, I have one left; the sub compact. They simply don't compare with a good 1911 in terms of trigger, natural pointing, and feel in the hand. Why anyone would want to handicap themselves with one is beyond me. I keep one only because it makes a good loaner. This way I don't have to lend out any of my 1911s.

I don't understand this at all. I am a 1911 fan first, (own 3) but my G26 is my second overall carry. The trigger is great, it points well for me, and I hit where I aim, even in rapid-fire. Though I own only one, I concede that Glocks are terrific guns.

Well, my first two Glocks were purchased right after they came on the market in the United States, so that could have something to do with it. I have heard people say that the ergonmics have improved, which may well be the case.

I am sorry, but I am a "righty". However...

I have a Model 20 and in qualifications, "outshot" two retired cops, (both Federal and City shields) as well as an MP that just returned from Baghdad! (BTW, they were alll shooting Compact Glocks chambered in both 9mm and .40 S&W).

Just hold the pistol with a moderate grip and you should be fine!

I've got a few GLOCKS (early M17, M19 and M21). I've never shot the M21 but the other two have always worked perfectly. My 9mm's stay in the safe these days, I'm only shooting 45 acp.

I love the design of the XD. It points much better than the Glocks, and fits my hand like a glove, but...
I am more accurate with the Glock than almost anything I've ever shot. And the XD owners have often complained of rust and other problems with the XD's finish. Additionally, the Glocks are made for thousands of rounds of +p+ ammo (which I often shoot in my G19), and I'm not sure the XD can handle that kind of abuse. So I went with the Glock.
Don't get me wrong. I think the XD line are great pistols, and I'll probably get one in .45 ACP. But in 9mm? Gimme my Glock 19.
