I am looking to buy a new .45, and I really like the looks and price of the Springfield XDM .45 full size in two tone. I'm wondering how these guns perform, and how they compare to other .45's in that price range? Also where is the cheapest I can find one? Thanks

Had one, didnt like it, dumped it, bought a Glock. I prefer the feel of the Glock. It feels like a man's tool.

I have a XDM.45 and a Glock 21--not SF. The XDM has a much better feel, but the trigger pull is even worse than the Glock if that's possible. Still, its a good shooter and appears to be a quaility piece. I paid $599 for mine locally, which I think is MSRP.

Not hearing too many good things on it yet. How do they shoot? How reliable are they? Would it make a decent carry gun? I don't want to spend $600 on a gun to have to make repairs and stuff on it to be reliable, I just want a gun that won't give me problems. I'm not a very big fan of Glocks just because everyone and their mother has one. The XDM caught my eye because it is a beautiful gun at a good price, but if it's not reliable or accurate then I don't want anything to do with it.

I was at the range testing my new XDM 3.8" .40, and it worked great on everything except one set of really bad ammo. A guy in the lane next to me handed me his .45 and it was real comfortable, shot well with barely any kick. I'm no expert, but I'd say it's a good gun. 13+1 rounds of .45 isn't a bad thing.

I was just doing research on the XDM .45 and read a lot of good things. Then I saw some stuff about the gun having troubles returning to battery that kinda scares me.

I'm purchasing one tomorrow off budsgunshop.com, I can't wait to get it. I changed my mind a little, I'm going with the .40 instead of the .45 since I already own a 1911. Can the XDM full size be used for ccw or is it too big?

I have never owned a XDM45, but I did own the XD45 Tactical....

I had it for several months but I could never really warm up to it.
I really didn't like the trigger-pull that much and I wasn't all that accurate with it, despite the longer barrel and longer sight radius.
And the high bore axis made for more muzzle-flip than one would expect with a 5" barrel.

I later traded it for another Glock.

I'm not saying that Glocks are necessarily better for everyone....just better for me.

I haven't shot the XMD yet, but I have shot several XD 45's and I love them. They shoot great I thought. I just picked up an XDM 9mm but haven't shot it yet. Feels great, I'm expecting it to perform.

If it's anything like the XD's they are pretty solid. Just like Ford vs. Chevy, etc... a few people will find their favorites--especially from a bad experience with the other. From my anecdotal experience, most people who prefer Glocks over the XDs like it because of the trigger and grip. Myself, I prefer my XDm's grip (I have an XDm 40 4.5"). The grip texture looks rough, but it actually feels nice and solid in the hand. Haven't had a chance to shoot an XDm 45 though I see one in my future!

M&P guy myself, I own 3. I did have a guy next to me at the range one day shooting WWB through his XD when he had a FTF. Rechambered it three times, asked me if I reloaded when he saw me collecting brass and asked if I would take it. (he wasn't sure what to do with it) I chambered it and fired the round without incident through my 40.

Anecdotal experience at best and his was brand new. My cousin just picked up an XD Tactical used and it felt good, looked good and the trigger felt great compared to a stock M&P (mine isn't stock). Seemed to be a winner in my book. FWIW my M&P is over 2k rounds without any failures (40 S&W) and the two 9mms combined have about 900 rounds between them without failure. XD, M&P, Glock, you really can't go wrong.

I have handled a few Glocks in my time but I don't recall any of them feeling like a man's...never mind. Maybe the Gen 3 with finger grooves would solve that.

I own an XD45 Tactical and an XDm 9mm 4.5. Both are good guns. Unlike easyg, I have no problems with muzzle flip on my .45. The XDm 9mm is a nail driver. I haven't shot the XDm 45 but it couldn't be much different from the XD45 Tactical.

FWIW, I also own a Glock. Personally, I prefer the feel of the XD's in my hand but that's entirely up to you.

I just got one today. I finally concluded my P220, as much as it is a COOL weapon, just doesn't fit my short fingered hands. I took it to a local gun show and a guy traded his Xd45 in dark earth, carry kit, and 6 magazines for my P220. I can't wait to take it out and shoot it. It did need a good cleaning and while I cleaned it I did notice a few differences between the XD and my beloved M&Ps. The XD seems much sturdier. Its also WAAAY slimmer than the Glock 45. I would have preferred an M&P 45 but I'll give SA a shot. Its a pretty trim package for 13 rounds of 45.

I have 3 XD's including a .45, I love them all, I have put about 2500 rounds thru the .45 and the 9mm I have over 6k rounds... never had any problem.. they are all on the money.

Glocks and I dont get along, they feel cheesy to "ME" and I dont like the feel of the slide when they rack... and to top it off my groups just suck..... but not the case with my XD's.

But to each his own :)
I like Ford's and Springfields

$599.00 for an XDM? Here's an off the wall suggestion. I have had nearly every polymer pistol made at least once or twice. Recently let my XD 45 Tactical go; impossible to move the sights w/o an expensive sight pusher.

I found this used HK USP 45 on Gunbroker for $555.00. Looked brand new. No comparison to a Glock (had several) or an XD(M) or an M&P (had a few of these too). Get a good deal on an HK and you'll never look back. BTW, the trigger on an HK can massaged w/o needing any parts (or money for that matter) that no striker fired gun can even come close to. Glock/XD/M&P can't touch the accuracy of the HK, at least in my hands.

Schemky, Ive shot them back to back (xdm and usp). I could tell no appreciable difference in accuracy. And actually, the usp's slide would slam shut everytime I inserted a new mag. I think both are great guns. But I dont think the usp was phenomoninaly better.

That's just my experience and YMMV.

I have tried many of the weapons commented on here, and I absolutely love the XD over the Glock...and especially over the all-metal guns. The newest XD's have thumb safety toggles, like a 1911...which makes them perfect, IMO.

I really shopped around before buying the XD, and I found reviews and tests that impressed me. The 10,000 round torture test was spectacular, especially since the XD fired every shot without a jam. i could not believe what they put the gun through.

I was looking for a good 45 carbine as a companion to the XD, and I was about to settle on a Beretta CX4, when I found out about these: Carbine Conversion Kit (only 1911 and Glock now, but XD next month)

The XD-M is a little heavier, thicker, and more like a 1911. People who use 1911's a lot will like the XD-M better, and people fond of Glocks will like the regular XD. You may not like it, but I would consider the XD to be vastly superior to a Glock. With a Tactical barrel and 13 round clip, it is exactly the same size as a 1911.

I am new to the board, but love weapons...just putting in my 2 cents.
