Xdm 45?

What does everybody think about the XDM 45? I saw it online today for 629.00. I think the price is a great deal but I am wondering how big the grip is.

Very nice gun. For the money, I don't think there's a big enough difference between the XD and the XDM.

I had my heart set on either a new M&P or a new Stoeger Cougar until I laid my paws on the XD earlier today. Now I'm really leaning towards the XD.

So many guns, so little time....

Yup. Unless you have some specific reason/need for the XDM (competition, HD gun with max number of rounds, need the backstraps), I can't see it over the regular XD.
Don't know how difficult they are to find, but some folks in here have been talking 'bout a "stripped" version of XDs (no holster, mag pouch, speed loader). If available, wish I had known 'bout 'em before I bought my last XDSC. My first one is pre-Melonite, before they started tossing all the junk in to jack the price up. If you could find something like that in an XD45, you're talking 'bout a pretty good price spread!

The extras ain't bad, but I prefer vertical mag pouches instead of the splayed, I tossed the speedloader in my shoebox with the rest of 'em that almost work (buy an UPLULA), and got my own holster.

Own an XDSC9 and SC40-the XD45C has been on my short list for a while.
If I can get one without all the "extras", I might be more inclined to buy.

In the .40 and 9, the XD has a smaller and more grippable (if you have tiny hands, like me) frame. Don't know if the case is the same for the .45, but it makes the XD much more attractive than the XD(M) for me, at least in the smaller calibers.

I took home an XDM-.45acp this past weekend. ($599) Its my first non-1911 Springfield, so I don't have a comparison with other SA similar products.
I also have a G21 with standard frame, and I can say that the XDM is much more comfortable to hold. Will do a side-by-side shoot-a-thon tomorrow.
Stuffing the non-captured recoil spring in place on the XDM is a minor annoyance and almost caused me to spill my beer.

NO COMPARISON on either pistol with a nice 1911, however. Just checken' out the dark side.

I have a 9mm XDM and I have a buddy who has both the 9mm and 40 S&W. All three are now for sale. Bad triggers for the most part, nothing special over all. Fell for the hype but won't do it again. Would be an ok truck gun I guess. If I were to get one at all it would be a standard XD with a trigger job.

I'm in the same camp as Wishoot and Basicblur.

I understand the disassembly and reassembly is a little more complex on the XDM since there is bar or lever that traverses inside the frame that allows the M version to be taken down w/o having to release the striker.

I think Springfield has great marketing, touting the "match" barrel, since many shooters are familiar with the term, not necessarily what a match barrel on pistol really is. From the recent test in the American Rifleman, the .45 M was no more accurate at 25 yards than the XD.

The difference in price between the XD and the M is worth it only if you are willing to pay for it.

The only reason I'm even interested is because of the backstraps. My XD45 is the only double stack 45 I can grip, but it's still big. If the backstraps make that much of a difference, I'll sell my XD to get moeny towards an XDm. If the backstraps don't make a difference, I'll just keep the pistol I'm used to.

I'll make the following remark about the XDM series at least as it applies to 9mm. I got the Xdm 9mm 3.8 about a month ago and have at least 700 rounds through it now. It's a great pistol. The weight and feel are excellent, trigger is excellent, and it's one of the most natural pointing handguns I have. I love shooting it. I have 3 Glocks and I can say that this gun is at least as good as the Glocks, and the trigger (for me anyway) is better.

I'm going to get an Xd 45 next. I believe that should be an excellent pistol as well.

I also love the grip safety. Some people are a bit too macho for it, but I find the extra safety comforting.

Don't know if this would apply to the OP or not (don't know what the purpose of his gun will be), but as one with a couple of XDSCs with LaserMax, when doing research on the XDM (to see if I was missing something), I found LaserMax guide rod lasers will not work with the new barrel design.

Just some useless info to file away for future reference?
It would be a shame for someone to buy an XDM if they were planning on adding a LaserMax later-DOH! :banghead:
