THR thread inevitabilities

Any thread about what makes a good 1911 will have a guy saying that front cocking serations (SP) are ugly and not necessary because JMB did not design the gun that way. AND then talk about the benifits of a highcut front strap and 20lpi checkering and a superhighhold gripsafety.

If the thread gets to three pages or longer, someone will read the first post on page one, skip to the last page and post something that was already brought up on page 2.

79) Any discussion of modern military rifles inevitably results in a debate about the long range performance of 5.56x45mm NATO.

80) Any discussion of bullpup rifles results in a bunch of people who have never held one arguing about their inferior handling qualities.

81) Everyone on the internet is good looking and an excellent shot.

82) People don't read beyond the second post before giving their divine insight into the OP's subject. (Sometimes, the OP's post.)

I totally agree.

If someone disagrees with you but is not willing to say why, they will ask for your references or documentation. It's often a 15 year old saying that to a 45 year old who has been shooting for 30 years, voting, living, running a business, and is politically active.

Page 4 thread comments are often off topic, but the thread had evolved into something that's still interesting and the moderators let it ride for a while.

None of which, by the way, qualifies you to comment on things like statistics or fluid dynamics. Just FWIW.

ETA: I can't help but look at post #77 and let out a good belly laugh. That right there is just funny.

pwrtool45: How true. But the poster may have a graduate degree in engineering or math and you don't even know it.

Now ya done gone and edited. I had an expository post and everything. :D (And MS' and PhD's (like Dr. Courtney) tend to note their field.)

I always like reading someone's posts about how bad ass they are because "I have taken Krav or JiuJitsu or Tae Kwan Do for 15 years" and then they post a pic of themselves and you know they couldn't roll for 15 seconds without having a coronary or they write a few months later that they have never been in a fight in their life. I love that one.

My continual favorites happen in every Ruger GP-100 v. S&W 686 thread.

  • That the Ruger is heavier. (Truth is that they are so equal in like barrel lengths as to be identical in terms of weight.)
  • That the Ruger is "bigger," when the fact is that in like barrel lengths they can share leather.
  • That Bill Ruger is/was a traitor, though he is totally dead and harmless, the AWB is gone, and S&W's "Clintonista deal" lives on immortally.

83. pax is a girl ? :p

84. Who is Art's Grammaw?

85. Where is the "report this post to a moderator" button?

86. Can we have a _____ forum?

87. How come THR is not run like ____ forum?

88. Why did my thread disappear ?

89 Where is the Stickie "Why did my thread disappear?"

90. pax is a really a girl ! :eek::scrutiny:

:D

Any time a shooting in Britain is mentioned, in any topic, at least 75% of the replies will consist of a "this can't be true, there are no guns in Britain" joke.

That is an excellent point and you have aptly educated some of us as to the nature of gun laws in Great Britain.

Same sort of thing applies to Canada.

96). About once every two or three months, someone will make an obscure centacrefrence. ;)

97). Any time someone mentions putting a supressor on a shorty AR, any "old hats" will instantly think of GunKid, even if they don't say anything.

98). People always say that the "hole" in Smiths is bad, will lock up, etc, without ever having noticed that the only ones that locked up were firing +P++ Handloads of doom in a less-than-suitable frame/material revolver.

99). People will always say "buy used Smiths, they're better"

100). People will always refer to the Smith Lock on revolvers, but refrence to said hole is strangely absent in 80% of all Smith Auto refrences.

22 revolver threads ultimately point to a Colt or Smith & Wesson as the best choice that often doesn't fit the budget. (Guilty as charged!)

101)
You can find a mint condition Colt SAA in a garage sale for nine dollars and someone will tell you how they found a better one and paid less.

102) Someone points out that any caliber that dosen't start with a 4 is useless

103) To be prepared for any SHTF situtation, you need at least 50,000 rounds of _______ ammo

I'm waiting for the ultimate THR thread inevitability:

Art Eatman drops in and closes it!

(and I'm a little surprised that it hasn't happened yet!)

104. Art and his wit.

Art just pops the top on another cold one, fires up a smoke, and shares another great one line quip in this thread.

"It beats L&Pee and not my job description in General no ways" :)

106. Somebody will post that his semi-auto handgun runs fine with ammo a, b, c, d, e and g but chokes on f.

Within 10 posts 2 people will suggest it needs break-in and/or remediation of limp-wrist. Totally and utterly missing the obvious clues in the OP.

105 A thread never makes a page without TV or movie references rearing their ugly heads. Movie references in gun threads are about as relevent as lunch meat references in a thread about race cars.

106 A picture or 2 dozen will invariably pop up in threads where a few words would have sufficed. (A lot of folks are on dialup)

107 A tactical thread is never complete without a dozen pictures of guns with vertical foregrips, curb feelers and turn signals.

108 A discussion on caliber effectiveness is never complete without the illogical comment "I bet you wouldn't stand in front of it". If this was a logical criteria for stopping power, all any of us would need is a .22 short.

109 If one person mispells muzzle brake as "muzzle break" the majority of the rest of the posters will also.

110 Threads about varmint hunting are full of people who don't know that there's an N in varmint.

111 In magazine vs clip threads, there will always be one person who insists that magazines are correctly called clips.

112. Anytime anyone asks the forum how they did in a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation there are always at least 10 posts about how they should've had a CCL.

113. Every post about someone's lifestyle changing (positive or negative) someone will ALWAYS tell them that's an excuse to get a new gun.

114. Someone will say once per day: "PRK" or "California"

115: Any discussion of a French firearm will have people competing to be the first to make the stale "only dropped once" joke within 5 posts.

116: Within two posts of that, someone else will recommend searching for "French military victories" at Google and hitting the "I feel lucky" button.

117: Once past the 7-post point, every other post in the "French Gun X" thread will be distracting and off-topic France-bashing.

118: About halfway in, someone will mention that they lived in France for a while, and that outside of Paris, the people were very nice.

119. sm will appear at an unexpected moment and post a 7-minute-long reply that 75% don't understand, 5% were there, and the other 20% won't get until just before they fall asleep that evening. :)

120. Ramp and throat polish. :cuss: :banghead:

121. Any post complaining of gun store counter help attitude problems will be followed up by a gun shp counter person complaining of customer attitude problems within 8 posts.

122. Additionally, there will be a slam on WalMart within 10 posts, often apropos of nothing.
