Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

I just got back from the lake.
My father’s friend hasn’t been up to snuff lately. And then Norge died. I forwent a trip to the range to lend a hand and hangout at the lake.

I had a fridge to trade him, and being not a jerk, made concession and left my pistol at home. He has known me since I was born, none of the sons or the city boys are here to help, yet, his cave his rules and I abide by them.
Though I am still not harmless.

This auto is fine and I know how to use it.

The slider door needed to be taken apart for either fridge to fit through, as well as the fridges doors. Three minutes had it done and we moved the new one in. Dad’s friend just watched amazed as we worked. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken him, could he have been able to. He’s not really the mechanical type, besides his health.

We laid Norge to rest at the top of the drive. Ten minutes later he was in a Ford F-100 that looked brand new, headed to a Benzie county metal shop. Norge lives! And some hipster mechanic is now the coolest guy in his shop.

Afterwards we repaired his boat. One new plug and wire and it was back in business. He can not stand for long, and I had to help him back onto the grass, but we went on a nice cruise around the Lakes.

I would have a few pictures of Swans and a Loon, were I not so fearful of losing my phone.:D

And after the trip back I was rewarded with this...

Though, now, this picture doesn’t really do it justice...

I don’t mean to drown the thread, but I realized today that my life is blessed with being indoors a mere nine hours a day. Seven or so of those spent sleeping. I even did some of that outside last week at the campground.
Most all of my days are enjoying the grace of Nature.
But even so, there aren’t a lot of grand vistas to photograph in Michigan. Most of our magic is close and intimate. And elusive, dodging camera snaps at whim. Like the Snipe in my Range trip thread. (It really is there.)
I have seen so many bears, while my boss, the outdoorsman of outdoorsmen, has never seen one until his bird feeder was stomped and munched this spring in his fifty seventh year.
We hunted fireflies last night, unsuccessfully.
I also hunted a Sphinx Moth with my phone, without success. Less trusting than a hummingbird.

Thank you, @460Shooter. Sometimes it’s the small things, a nice day, the smell of hay, my boy’s hug, or even a thread about the outdoors, that make one appreciate the small section in time we are allotted.

So, with no more gilding of the Lily, this is what accompanied me on this yard day.

Trucks are red.
Tractors are green.
Pistols are 1911’s!
:)

I’m glad a few folks have been enjoying this thread. I honestly thought we’d have a lot more participants but that’s ok.

I’ve refrained from posting the last few outings because it was one of the guns I’ve already posted and in the same area as before. I don’t want to get to repetitive.

I grew up in the lake states and I am pretty familiar with upper Michigan and a bit of lower. All the grand vistas typically happen on the water in the lake states because they just don’t have a ton of topography. But that’s fine as I find the dense northern hardwood forests have their own beauty. I’ve had many wildlife encounters there. I’ve seen bear too but I know I was close to one I couldn’t see. It was making noise and warning me off. The brush was that thick.

Going to head out on my bike shortly. May head to a different area. If the pictures are worth it I’ll post. Hmmm. What gun to carry? I usually prefer polymer on a bike.

meant to say also I dig the look of that knife too.

And here's another from the same day as above.... 20200613_102206.jpg
Notice my .204 handi-rifle on the track...
You see the previous day I was tilling this river bottom field. It is deer hunting paradise. At one point there was a small fawn galloping towards me around a curve in the treeline. As soon as I could see around the curve....there was Wiley coyote trailing the fawn. He was too cautious to allow me even a hail Mary with my lcp. The next morning I returned with the planter and my .204 but, alas, no coyotes.

Alright. A few pictures to keep this going.

Same location on my bike. There’s a tunnel I turned around at 7 miles from my house. Just a fast burn. Carried my XDs-45 IWB on my Bigfoot gun belt.

While I have nicer guns than that XDs, I keep it as my hiking and biking beater. It shoots straight so I can’t ask for more. Plus some times you just want to carry a 45.
