Is it just me or there is .223 everywhere wmart even a small lgs had 2 five ft tall pallets! I wonder if a lot of manufacturers retooled after sandy hook and that is why the 22 shortage???

Around here 223 was getting to be slim pickings (along with everything else) but it was usually available for a price. There is plenty now for sure and I'm OK with that.

I believe 22lr. Is another matter and has little, if anything, to do with 223 ammo. Lots of new gun owners... Lots.... They want cheap guns and cheap ammo. Imagine 30 million buyers (I'm guessing here) coming into the market overnight. Each one wants a brick of ammo for their new gun.

22 lr is coming back now. It's not unusual to see it on the shelves lately.

Rimfire ammo uses a completely different and much more complicated manufacturing process than centerfire ammo. The machinery is in no way compatible. The set-up for rimfire manufacturing is absolutely huge in comparison to centerfire. It is also much more expensive to start and requires more labor and operating cost.

I heard its easy the way they have their machines setup only a few hours to retool for a dif caliber but maybe im wrong

My understanding is that 22lr uses entirely different machinery for the loading process.

Still waiting to see where/when Bruno2 was seeing factory .223 for less than 20 cents a round. I haven't seen prices like that since 2006 or so.

I suspect it was nothing other than a stubborn denial of reality.
