I used a .45 Colt lever gun for awhile, then switched to a cheap shotgun. Glad I did, since it got stolen. Replaced it with an inexpensive used 18.5" 870.

Surprised no one has brought up the legal point of view. Legal system results might be affected by your choice of weapon. "Assault rifle", pump shot gun, or good ol'boy thutty-thutty all have differing appearances to different audiences- just something to mull over (taking off my tin-foil hat now):p

Definitely an AR in M4 configutation.....short enough to conceal behind the seat or under the back seat in a king cab.....5.56 ammo will be available in this country for a while....mags are cheap, spare part are available and major maintenance is possible by the owner......and while the AK as developed with the spray and pray mentality without much thought to long range accuracy.....engaging targets with an AR at 300 meters is not difficult for a shooter of average skill. Contrary to a lot of the old wives tails....a DI AR platform rifle is exceptionally reliable.....while old habits die hard and I still clean mine everytime I use it......I have gone several thousand rounds between cleanings with no malfunctions.......one over looked task...TEST your mags before you bet your life on them.....just cause they are new out of a wrapper dosen't mean they are good ....My basic load is HK steel mags....expensive but worth it if your life depends on them.

As I have multiple AR's...I usually carry my .45 ACP gas op with 4 full grease gun mags with a tracer loaded as the next to last round as the last round bolt hold open dosen't work in that configuration....YET... :D ...... and for training....I shoot my AR in 7.62 x 25 Tok as ammo is cheap and I have a bunch of it.
