You think the US is bad? We were stationed in the Phillipines around 1960 and my father was in the Air Police. He carried a Colt Python at the time. He told me about Phillipines gun control:
1) Anybody with a gun (even LE's) must bring the gun in for registration and balistic testing.
2) During testing, they fire two rounds and recover them. That way, anytime a gun crime is committed they will know who did it.
They did not explain how it was they thought the criminals would be bringing their guns in for ballistic registration?
But, the stupidity gets better...
My dad watched as they got ready to test fire his Python in their lab. PROBLEM: THEY HAD NEVER SEEN A MAGNUM.
The "test bed" was a box about three feet long with a flip top lid. The box was filled with dirt and sawdust and they would fire the bullets in the end, flip the lid, dig around and recover the rounds. The test box was against the wall to the outside.
My dad immediately tried to warn them to stop but they just rattled off something in tagalog. The guy then fired this Python into the end of the box (and probably released his bowels simultaneously). The two guys in the lab talked back and forth for a moment and then he launched the second round.
They opened the lid and started digging. Eventually they got to the wall. More arguing in Tagalog. My dad said to move the box. They pulled it away from the wall and saw sunshine streaming in through the two holes in the wall. One guy got down and looked out the holes, then much conversation in tagalog ensued. After a few minutes, he removed the two spent brass from the gun and handed the gun back to my dad.
"We will keep the shell casings." was all he said.
