Ultimate range bragging gun..what would you pick?

$3500 isn't enough for a proper double rifle.
One shot out of an Abrams gun cost more than $3500 in 2000. You'd be stuck with practiced ammo. snicker.

I know what I did get and it's a popular choice among range regulars in my area. I bought a Savage 12 LRPV. Add the best glass you can find to that (I only have a Weaver T-36 on mine but I'd like to have better) and you can hang with the best shooters at 800 yards. According to the local range master the 600 yard competitions they have are totally dominated by this rifle. It's basically the same rifle as the F Class and the F/TR but it has a slightly shorter barrel and a different stock. People say the shorter barrel (26" vs. 30" for the other rifles) is balanced better. The only thing is they don't make them in .308 any more. They do make them in 6 NORMA BR. But the other Savages have better caliber options IMO so they might be a better choice.

You can of course upgrade a Savage and that's what many people do. There's a long wait but a person can get a SSS Evolution Trigger but they won't install one even if you don't get the action timed and trued. Throw in a Brux or a Douglas barrel and you'll be right at $2500 or so and you'll have one heck of a shooter. Mount a really good scope and you can bang the gong at 800 yards all day.

I keep coming back to the fact that people took stock Savage rifles and won some serious competitions with them. Those were 600 and 1000 yard competitions too BTW. And SSS has a great reputation for making Savage rifles even better.

There are actually lots of ways to go. I just believe in Savage and what they have been doing over the past decade. There are certainly rifles I would rather have but they generally cost well north of $3500 by themselves and that's with no scope. For the price you listed I think Savage would be a good path to take.

$3500 aint enough to start. The AI that I shoot was quite a bit more, and that did not even include the optic or case, etc.

That's what I was getting at when I suggested a Sharps rifle. Something they would never expect but beautiful!
I'd take my Browning Creedmoor BPCR in .45-90. Has 1,000 yard sight already installed

All I'd have to do is pull it out of the safe.

I don't need to impress anyone at the range or otherwise.
Frankly I've never seen a "bro" at the range I frequent..

That's why I said, "There are certainly rifles I would rather have but they generally cost well north of $3500 by themselves and that's with no scope. For the price you listed I think Savage would be a good path to take." I'd buy an AI if I had a few thousand laying around the house.

22 lr capable of IDPA steel target hits at 300-500 yards. Win a few bets I am sure lol.

Savage in nice stock (or a Sako QUAD!) in 22lr, good ammo and data, 50 MOA cant murphy precision base, SWFA fixed 10 or something with a wide range reticle and lots of adjustment.

Stick a suppressor on it and maybe hang some 1/4 inch ar500 so it rings better lol.

Geez 34'000 dollar double rifle, and that doesnt even include the elephant!

How about a Quigly Down under Shiloh sharps with a tang sight in 45-70? I don't know the exact cost and they have lots of models to choose from.

Another option would be a Ruger No 1 single shot.

It won't get you out to 800yds, but if 500yds will work. You can get this setup. A Remington 2020, ditch the gumby stock and get an HS Precision with the PT & G trigger guard assembly. With this setup, your buddies can see the target as you see it from their phone or tablet.

Like Walkalong said,,,

Something exotic,,,

If I were going for the cool factor,,,
I would definitely get a double rifle of some ilk,,,
And hope there would be enough left over for the proper outfit.

As a kid the Great White Hunter movies thrilled me to no end.

Pretty much why I built a 50 BMG rifle. Not a lot of use for something with as much power as it has but it is cool to blow through 1” plate steel like nothing.

Had some folks that wanted to hunt hogs with it but they decided to carry a rifle that weighed less than 47lbs, that worked just as good.
