US Army transition M9 to SIG P226

Not to be too off topic but someone else brought it up:

The HK P2000 is a HUGE step forward from the POS Italian tomahawk (96D). In fact I think it has a much better trigger than my USP compact LEM.

Army Will Stick With Beretta

The U.S. military recently signed a contract with BERETTA for another 25,000 guns. SIG 226 is not likely to be bought by anyone except special operations units which do whatever they want.

The next gun, if it ever gets purchased will not be a SIG 226 either. It is a metal gun and polymer is the wave of the future. GLOCK, H&K and SMITH & WESSON are the most likely makers. They all have .45ACP models that can be bought with a manuel safety.

As for the H&K 2000. It is a very, very good gun. It kicks like a 9m.m. when I am shooting .40 S&W. It has proven very reliable and the trigger is much better than most DAO guns.

I own BERETTA DAO guns and like them, but the H&K is much lighter and a more compact design. At the end of the day, that wins out most of the time.

Even if the CMP could sell old handguns, the military was never one to give them away. At the time of the adoption of the M9, some of the 1911s still in service had been made as far back as WWII. They were some old guns.
As they wore out and broke, pieces got salvaged and the bits that were too far gone were sent for scrap since they were no longer serviceable.
While it means fewer good guns available for citizens, I certainly can't fault the military for being that frugal with at least one of its resources.

HK P2000 Dislike

Well, it's like this. We had Glock 17s (US Customs) and Beretta 96s (INS) in days gone bye. When DHS combined 22 agencies, we ended up Customs & Border Protection, and with two weapons. A new weapon selection program was begun to select a weapon for everyone. Instead of going to Glock 22s (Fiscal reason to do this includes training already done, instructors and armorers in place, spare parts on hand, guns that last forever, and the most reliable hadgun in the world) the selection committee (who the heck were they???) picked the P2000. Net result, more people need remedial instruction each trimester, difficulty at 25 yards, etc. The trigger pull sucks, the trigger reset is 'clunky,' and, asthetically speaking, the gun is butt ugly. I do wish the agency treated us like big boys and girls, and let us carry what we have confidence in and shoot best (My Kimber CDP Pro Carry II REALLY would be a great duty gun! At least let me carry my Glock 23! ! !). Look at it like this, every other Federal agency issues or authorizes carry of Glocks, except CBP. For the cost of ONE H&K P2000 with night sights and 5 magazines, you can easily get TWO GLOCK 22/23s with night sights and six magazines. The Glocks don't wear out, are easy to teach non-shooters to shoot well, quickly. The whole world makes leather for them, first. And NOTHING works as reliably. Well, that's one senior CBP officers opinion. Oh, and with 26 years of firearms instruction behind it...

one does nor earn the CMOH, one is awarded the CMOH. Not to be a stuffed shirt but the strict distinction is important I believe

Since you believe in strict distinctions - it is the Medal of Honor - not the Congressional Medal of Honor... :p

The medal is frequently, albeit incorrectly, called the Congressional Medal of Honor, stemming from its award by the Department of Defense "in the name of Congress."

GLOCK 22 would not work

ADLER,

We will have to agree to disagree. I had a GLOCK 22 and sold it. IT WAS MUCH HARDER TO SHOOT THAN THE GLOCK 17, 19 or the H&K.

As for the 25 yard line, have you seen how many of the CUSTOM guys shoot with the GLOCK 17. The legacy INS firearm instructors are quite open that they expect legacy CUSTOMS officers not to be able to qualify with the H&K P2000 when the new course of fire goes into general use. They shoot so badly, they may not qualify with even the GLOCK 17!

Do you remember the pistol that was being issued before the P2000. When INS was disolved so that the agency management could be sacked (LORD BE PRAISED), FLETC was training the new guys on the H&K USP.

As for ugly, compared to a GLOCK?

For example nearly a million M14s alone were destroyed by his order. Weapons that easily could have been turned into M1As and made it into the CMP.
Things like this almost make me cry, and I didn't even cry when old yeller got shot (that took a lot of effort though).

Adler,

I agree I wish they would let us carry whatever we wanted but I am glad to have the P2000 over the 96D or the Glock (just my personal opinion). As for the selection committee the Gov. solicited volunteers of different skill levels and hand sizes and shot the hell out of a bunch of guns. The pistol that performed the best got picked. I have a personal friend who was one of the testers and according to him some of the guns did not make it past day one.
